The Blog and more

The DrewLitton.com blog is finishing up it’s first month online. During that time I’ve been drawing almost daily (M-F), have started the cartoon caption contest and had a lot of new people joining our community. And that’s a very key word to me… Community. See, I envision this blog becoming a lot more than just a place for posting my daily sports cartoons. I see this as a lot more than just a place where you guys leave a random comment now and again. And I want to share a few thoughts and then ask for your help and your ideas.

A few thoughts

One of my favorite things about the sitcom “Cheers” was the theme song. You know the part “where everybody knows your name, and they’re all so glad you came”. It reminds me of simpler times when we knew our neighbors and we slowed down enough to cherish the good times. You may or may not know this but cartoonists by nature are a pretty reclusive bunch. We spend a great deal of time locked away in some closet somewhere dreaming up silly, goofy pictures, pretty much like the ones we drew in 7th grade algebra class that did nothing more than get us kicked out of 7th grade algebra class. (In hindsight, it was a formula that did prove quite affective.) Anyway, we often have our most meaningful conversations with the Fred and Barney bobble heads that sit next to our drawing boards. In other words, community is huge. So I’m hoping for this blog to become a place were everybody knows your name and we’re actually overjoyed that you came. Now here’s the important part. I really need your input.

I need your help

I want to make this a blog you want to come to over and over again. Sometimes more than just once a day. So I’m asking for your input. What can I offer on here, besides the daily cartoons, the occasional animation or game or caption contest? Would you like me to write more inside sports perspective? More cartoon content? Maybe cartoon content not just about sports? Would you like me to include sketches from my sketchbooks or ideas not fully evolved yet? How about desktop wallpaper or podcasts or video chalk talks or drawing tips with me in the studio sometimes? How about a topic of the day or a question of the day where everyone can add their own take? These are just a few ideas. Now I want to invite you to tell me what would make this a super cool place to spend part of your day. A place we could hang out and talk, and more importantly get to know each other. The more ideas the better. Thanks everybody.

Tiger in the tank
Just when you thought the tournament was over, out of nowhere comes Tiger passing the leader and taking another checkered flag. It happens so many times, in so many ways we should all just come to expect it. And maybe we do, but it shouldn’t ever make it less amazing every time Tiger performs another miracle. He is Beethoven writing the 5th symphony, Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel. I’ve done a lot of Tiger Woods cartoons through the years, too many to mention. But each one I draw one I feel grateful. To get the chance to observe a part of history and to watch a Master at work.
