Bowden to Bow Out?
It’s tough when coaches have lost their edge, can’t see it and refuse to hang it up before they are pushed. Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno come immediately to mind. Great coaches in their day but both have clearly they coached past their primes. And after years of great football how can anyone really push them out the door. An official from inside the Florida State program was quoted as saying about the Bowden dilemma “we have to take the emotion out of it. We have to make it a business decision.” That doesn’t bode well for Bowden.
Rocktober update
I’ll be drawing about game 1 of the Rockies-Phillies playoff series. Check in later Wednesday night for a toon.

Congratulations to our Winners!!
Jim Cruz is our Big Prize Winner with the caption:
“Now this is what I call Octoberfest!!”
Connie Sue wins a special strong second award this week for two of my favorites:
“Heaven… I’m in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.”
and
“Are these the fall colors everyone keeps talking about?”
Connie will be getting an original cartoon of her choice.
Our Two Runner-ups were:
avguy with “As a matter of fact, I AM the Center Of My Universe”
and Steve Rydell, who consistently writes some of the strongest captions week in and week out, with
“I’m just livin’ the dream.”. I love that.
winners Be sure to send me contact information at sportoonz@gmail.com so I can get them in the mail.
A Note About the Caption Contest
In the last few weeks I’ve made mention about how hard it is for me to get the winners prizes in the mail in an efficient way. I want everything I do on DrewLitton.com to be first class, and while your caption entries have been every bit of that, my time to get the prizes back to you has not. My increase in freelance workload has been the major reason it has been hard to stay on schedule with the mailings ( I worked 16 hours on Sunday, which is, unfortunately, more the norm these days.)
We’re entering into a rather busy time in the sports schedule as well as the freelance schedule. So with that said, the Caption Contest will take a little break until things slow down and I can figure out how to handle the fulfillment of prizes faster and less time consuming. Stay tooned for updates. And I’m open to suggestions on how to make this work better.
A Note about Rockies cartoons
Since we are in the midst of Rocktober I will be at my drawing board after every game to draw cartoons and provide as much fun stuff as I can. I’ll also be doing cartoons on the Broncos-Patriots matchup. So it indeed will keep me hopping here on the blog. I invite you to toon in and bring a few friends along.
