saints

I couldn’t resist revisiting this cartoon. My brother, Alan, who lives in Baton Rogue, reminded me of a cartoon I had done in 1987 when the Saints went to the playoffs for the first time. I couldn’t find it in my files. But I always liked the emotion in this cartoon from 2006 when the city of New Orleans reclaimed the Superdome from the throes of Katrina.

There’s a new post on the Creators Incubator below this.

The End is Near!
The season can’t be almost over already. I don’t know about you but the worst funk of the winter for me is always right after the Super Bowl. I don’t ski, it’s still cold outside and there isn’t any football left. Now if they played those lousy bowl games we have to endure in December in February they might be on to something.

Here’s to the Saints
NFL’s doormat no longer. This one goes out to all of the brave and courageous people of New Orleans, who have faced more adversity than any of us will ever know. It has bee a long time coming. Enjoy the journey, it’s long overdue.

A Secret
I guess it’s finally safe to come out of the closet. I was the only kid in West Texas to wear a New Orleans Saints jacket to school. This was in the heart of Dallas Cowboys country but I chose to root for the Saints and a young quarterback named Archie Manning. The Saints of course just got the crap beat of them game after game, and as I recall, so did I. Not a bright move wearing the Saints Logo on my sleeve. I eventually relented (after much violent coercion) and converted to the Cowboys. Soon I was the only kid in West Texas to cheer for Craig Morton over Roger Staubach. Bet you can guess how that went over. So yesterday I sat proudly wearing my New Orleans Saints hat as they marched into their very first Super Bowl. In the comfort of my own living room, thank you very much.

“The Internet is the monster that ate reason, a thief in the night that turned loyalty to a 150-year profession into a homeless shadow of itself,” she said. “There needs to be a way to compensate cartoonists fairly or there will be no more comics.”
Julie Larson creator of the cartoon called the Dinette Set

I’m going to take a few more weeks of drawing 3 times a week here M-W-F. I still have more marketing to do and my Littoonz Studios website to work on. After drawing sports cartoons daily for 27 years it feels good to slow down just a bit from the daily grind and I do hope you will be patient as I get off the treadmill two days a week for a while. See you Monday!
