Cutler’s Last Stand

I know. It wasn’t that long ago that I did this one. But it summed up my feelings then and it really, really sums them up now. ‘Nuff said.

Cutler is a snotty little brat who will lose just as many games with the Bears as he did with us. So is Petyon Hillis the man or what?
Yea I was never a big fan of cutler. ever. I liked Jake Plummer, sure the man had a few int’s but he got the job done, he got us to the afc championship (along with our stellar D). and what do we do to thank him? we use him as a sacrificial scapegoat and throw him to the wolves. If he remained in that Seahawks game (Cutler’s first appearance) we would have made the playoffs.
you simply have to place atleast some of the blame on cutler. even if mcdaniels tried to trade him, even if he told him to his face that no one is untradeable, its still cutlers job to show up to work, do his job and lead this team. its a coaches job to do what he thinks is best for the team, and players should understand this is a BUSINESS. champ bailey said it himself, he got traded after 4 pro bowls and he never made a fuss like this, cutler got traded after one, he said, and i quote, “you cannot get all butthurt when your name comes up in trade talks”. cutler thought he was beyond that rule and sat at home without answering his phone to anyone broncos related.
that said, bowlen should not have ordered him to be traded.
Good Morning from Omaha,
Wow…I guess I missed the depth of the contempt bronco fans for there own.
Yes Cutler and McDaniels handled the situation badly. I don;t know who is gong to get it worse.
Cutler when he takes the field, or Mickie D when the broncos lose. You guys in Denver have set
yourselves up to the point that no matter what happens, even a trip to the super bowl(not that that is going to happen)will be met with scorn and derision.
Football is a business, even when handled badly, and the fans get a lot out of it, but to be unhappy no matter what happens is just silly.
Oh yes the Royals lost again. they are in a race with the nationals to be the worst team in baseball.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
Gene
the irony is how hard you’re beating the dead horse.
All that I have to say about Cutler is that he is Denver’s old news. He is a has been, and never will be champion, the reason why he could not stay here was because he was quoted sayin that “this is John Elway’s town”. True that statement is, but he never took the challenge to be a leader and follow John’s steps to make himself successful. Ignore the child and he will mature eventually, hopefully in another field outside of football.
@Hebner – Plummer? Really?!? As a life-long fan, I would rank him 5th out of all the QB’s that lined up behind center. His attitude and work ethic was pathetic during his last 1 1/2 years in a Bronco’s uniform and worse than anything I saw from Cutler while the young man was playing. Our reality: Cutler was our best hope for true league leading talent after John. Orten represents another QB in the Bronco’s rotating door of mediocre talent. Before this off-season, I truly believed we had one of the best owners in the NFL. Ultimately it is his money – but I am still mystified how two faced he was during the off-season: Overly tough and outspoken with Shannahan – completely hands off when MCD screwed the pooch with an immature Cutler and an unprofessional agent. I am glad that MCD/Bowlen didn’t fold to Brandon Marshall – he can rot on the bench for the next two years as far as I’m concerned. However, I can’t say that I’m really looking forward to watching my Bronco’s this year. I just hope we beat the Raiders.
I have to disagree. At least Plummer would take the blame for an interception instead of blaming it on a reciever like cutler did. The guy broke the pass record as a bronco. The 3rd Bronco QB to ever win a playoff game. And also how would you feel if you knew your days were limited, and that you were thrown to the wolves by the city and the fans your work ethic would decline. Its teh same as if you were working and you have your pay and hours decreased because someone new came in to take your job.
Cutler could have handle the situation better than he did, but I understand his anger and I don’t blame him for demanding a trade. It’s a business. Suppose he gritted his teeth and stayed in Denver. McDaniels didn’t want him and the Broncos were in for a rough year. He struggles or if the team posted less than 8 wins then Cutler gets released, traded, whatever and his leverage for his next contract is decreased. He goes to a new team, puts up good numbers this season and next and he has an excellent chance at a new big contract. We all expect players to be ‘team’ guys, but the fact is: it’s a job and it’s very short period time that these guys can make big money. If I worked for a company and the new boss didn’t think I would fit into his new organizational plans, you better believe I would find the first opportunity to move on to another job.
I think Cutler’s days were numbered the moment he said (sic) “My arm is stronger than Elway’s”. He committed a sin: Speaking the Great One’s Name without the proper reverence. ::eye roll:: Denver and it’s fans are spoiled. For the last 25 years, this team has either had a HOF QB and/or a future HOF coach. It’s pretty easy to rack up wins when you have that combo. We are about to experience what it’s REALLY like to suffer through a rebuilding year (or two) and cringe when the QB’s name is mentioned as the starter.
Since the Super Bowl wins, everyone (including the organization) had this mentality we were ‘One player away from a championship’. The team had a huge collapse at the end, but before that I can think of 3 games we won because we had Cutler: First SD game, Jets and the New Orleans game. Yeah the ref ‘gave’ the game to the Broncos. But Cutler made the throw for the winning TD and 2 point conversion. A throw Orton can’t make because he can’t throw that hard. The New Orleans game would have been a total a$$ kicking if Cutler and the offense don’t put up the huge numbers and the Jets game. Wow, that’s when I was sold on Cutler.
We went in as underdogs. The wind at the Meadowlands was just crazy. Rain coming down. The Jets and Brett Farve are the media darlings. The weather never fazed Jay and he threw the ball like he was in his backyard playing catch. This was the beginning of the end of Farve in NY. He looked awful as his passes faded down field. Best game Cutler has ever played. For the naysayers out there who say Jay will struggle in the WINDY city. Go watch this game from start to finish. INSANE.
Really the Broncos were a 5-6 win team last year and the offensive play bought them 2-3 wins. That same team is on the field this year, except the QB is a dink-dunk passer and doesn’t have the physical gifts to put up 30 points. Add a tough schedule and the 5-6 win team will win….. 5-6 wins.
The Plummer Love surprises me. I think it’s fans with a bad case of nostalgia. Plummer was not accurate unless he was throwing on the run. His best plays were bootlegs. Although, he could throw farther than Griese the offensive play was very limited with Plummer at QB. If he was forced to stay in the pocket, he wasn’t accurate. And there was the bad attitude, flipping off fans, refusing to work in the offseason. Can’t remember the name of the book, but it was written by someone trying out for place kicker Cutler’s rookie season. Neither Plummer or Cutler came off as ‘leaders’ that book. Plummer explicitly told the author that “Shanahan could kiss his a$$” when it came to off season tape sessions.
Im not gonna argue with the fact that we would have made the playoffs that year we put jay in but the fact of the matter is if you compare the defences each quarterback had to work with it is no contest jake had a much better defence to back his dismal performances up Jay had one of the worst in the league so its pretty hard to put all of our struggles (previous to this year) on Jay cutler
