The Broncos: What a Blast!

bowlenblast

If this is what the rest of the ride is like, I think I might just get off here. If you are a longtime Broncos fan, you will be feeling more than a little nauseous today. It’s not the Swine Flu. No. It’s the Broncos without a Clue. What hath Pat Bowlen wrought? Or Rot? We are witness to the complete dismantling of one of the NFL’s best franchises. Last night’s preseason loss to Jay Cutler and the Bears was the single most devastating preseason loss in Broncos history. Sure, it was only a preseason game you might say. But I think it was much much more. The beginning of the game had the fervor and intensity of a playoff game. This team wanted badly to beat Jay Cutler and the Bears, if only for some sense that maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. They got their answer in the form of a Jay Cutler 98 yard “Elway-like Drive” that stuck the dagger in deep, most likely finishing this team’s season before it has even begun.

And I’m not sure which was worst. Seeing Cutler in a Bears uniform or Josh McDaniels in that ridiculous Belichick sleeveless sweatshirt. Hey Josh, Do the words “be your own man” mean anything to you? I didn’t think so.

What did you think of Josh McDaniels Sleeveless Hoodie?

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

Wow, the afc worst just handed the crown to the chargers.

I saw some of the raiders/saints, chiefs/sea hawks and broncos/bears. If San Diego can win in spite of Norv they have the division won. I don’t remember ever seeing such poor football being played by an entire division. Yes I know its the preseason but things look bad. cassel is hurt (the chiefs won’t talk) orton is hurt (the broncos won;t talk) and the raiders have al davis.

hopefully the teams in the afc worst will get a clue by the middle of the season and play better toward the end of it. We can always hope.

Man what a mess I don’t know what we can do about it,probably nothing, so we will be fans and endure this season in hopes that next year will be better.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Jay cutler had an “elway like drive” ?

I dont think so, he was mediocre, the bears defense and special teams won the game (as usual) .

This might be a long season, but personally to me last year was probably the WORST season EVER! The Broncos leading the division for 16 weeks to give it up on national tv getting whooped by the chargers had to be one of the worst moments in Broncos history.

Shanahan lost his job for a reason: JAY CUTLER!

  3. The blame should solely be put on Bowlen for what has occurred thus far. He had the power to prevent it and he has the power to fix it. However, Brian Xanders should also not be exempt from responsibility. The moves that the franchise have made in the past year are mind boggling. To think what could have been…

But it is time to let whatever happen, happen. This season may be a already be a wash. If that happens we need to look at replacing not only the head coach and his staff but also the GM. We need to start looking at trying to stockpile draft picks and have someone in charge who knows how to draft.

If you’re going to clean house then do a thorough job and stop putzing around. This is getting comical.

And yes, the “hoodie” is ridiculous in ways that are hard to describe…in fact, I think it warrants its own cartoon. 😉

  4. I love it! Put the blame directly where it belongs. If McDaniels had been sent directly by Belichick to destroy the Broncos, he could not have done a better job. Is Bowlen looking for a business loss for taxes?

  5. I am alittle confused on what Pat Bowlen is trying to do here too. What direction are the Broncos trying to make? When Bernie Bikerstaff was here with the Nuggets it seemed a little strange too, with all the draft picks and players traded away with little or no production. It doesnt make sense to me at all. Why would a team succeed to fail? Josh may not make it to Thanksgiving dinner with the Broncos if this continues to go on. At least I would hope that it change but I dont see it anytime soon. I am a loyal fan through and through but the only change that needs to be addressed is the way the front office is running the team, right along with Josh. The my way or the highway is not working here, the way the Broncos can get back to being successful is by having fun out there on the field and not being micro-managed from upstairs.

  6. Little Joshy has to be like Dad with the hoodie!!!! Maybe Pat should just come out and say I cant run a football team!!!! I need help running my team!!! Might as well trade Brandon get it over with so they can suck harder then what they do!!! I hear asking for help is the first step in admitting you have a promblem!!!

  7. Trying to take emotion out of a very emotional situation, we are left with a few basic truths. First, JMcD NEVER saw Jay Cutler as a plus in his “Patriot” offense. Jay’s too much of a gunslinger (ala Favre). From the very beginning Cutler was on notice. I do not blame him for the developing situation. Bolen bought in to the plan. Don’t even thing it didn’t come up in the interviewing process. The Kid wants a diciplined robot to do his offensive bidding. Time will tell.

Next, Marshall is a head case. Shanny gave him rope. McD will not. In todays NFL, the worth of a pain in the neck is directly related to his external value. Do you see teams lining up to take him off our hands? Especially for a Pro Bowl player value? Can’t blame Jr.

Say what you want. Elway, TD, Sharpe, and a number of others brought consistancy and respect to this franchise. They’re gone. So is the consistancy. Was it going to come back with Cutler if the defense improved? This year we’ll see with the Bears. Bolen made his bed with Josh. Give it time to be slept in. Two years minimum. Give the guy a chance Broncomaniacs…..you have no other option. Emotion will only get you heartburn.
