  1. Dear Drew,

Glad that spring training is here. However I’m looking more forward to the start of the regular season. That is because my family has certain traditions.

Tradition #1: My father and I watch the first home game of the year. Sadly not at the stadium but I go to his house. He makes bratwurst soaked in beer to eat.

Tradition #2-#3: We treat each other for a game on each of our birthday’s (Him june 18th an me July 25)

Tradition #4: In late aug. or early Sept the whole family (3 generations in all involving 7 people go to a game together then after its over we go to a Dairy Queen for ice cream)

So like you I’m excited about the prospect of baseball again.

    All the best

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

One of my best memories involves going to watch the old KC athletics play the Cleveland Indians. Back in old Municipal stadium downtown they had a tradition where when the umpires ran out of baseball a hole would open in the ground between home plate and the backstop and out would pop a mechanical rabbit with a basketful of baseballs for him to use.

when the A’s left town for Oakland the KC team became the Royals. When our daughter was born, back in 1981, within a few months of her birth we took her to a Royals game in Mid september and it was still very warm. Too keep our daughter cooler we would take turns standing in the concourse where there was a pretty good breeze and would rock her to keep her cool. An older drunk man came along and saw us rocking our darling daughter and said she was indeed “robust”. We still smile to this day when we think of that warm day and our “robust” little girl.

    Its baseball season again.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene
