DREW’S BACK!

We got Drew, yes we dew! We got Drew, how ‘bout yew?!

Denver’s favorite sports cartoonist, Drew Litton, is back in town and will be contributing new weekly comics to the 22 newspapers published by Colorado Community Media starting in June.

Litton was the very popular sports cartoonist for the Rocky Mountain News for 27 years until it closed in 2009. He has published three cartoon anthologies of his work and has won numerous awards, including one from the National Cartoonists Society.

Colorado Community Media is a locally owned newspaper group based in Highlands Ranch that publishes 22 suburban newspapers in the Denver and Pike’s Peak regions, spanning from Brighton to Woodland Park.

Since 2009, Litton has drawn for his own website, www.DrewLitton.com, been nationally syndicated by Universal Uclick and drawn weekly for the Chicago Tribune. His other clients include KUSA 9News, the Boulder Daily Camera, The Colorado Rockies magazine and Mile High Sports magazine. He also prides himself on being the staff cartoonist for the Guadalupe County Communicator in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, run by a former Rocky Mountain News Colleague.

Of the new partnership, Litton says, “A few years ago I accidentally took a left turn at Albuquerque and ended up lost in the strangest place on the planet- Texas. After a brief stop for Barbeque, I did what any level-headed human being would do and found my way back home to Colorado. I’m glad to be back and am honored to be a part of Colorado Community Media’s great local journalism.”

“The Broncos, Rockies, Avalanche, Rapids and Nuggets…Gov. Hickenlooper, LoDo, Union Station and Red Rocks… snow and the changing aspen… all of the things I missed about Colorado and then some. Now I get to draw about them for Colorado Community Media. Life simply just doesn’t get any better than that.”, He adds.

Litton’s cartoons will run in the Colorado Community Media newspapers starting the week of June 16 and his archives will be available on their website, www.coloradocommunitymedia.com.

The company also plans to run Litton’s comics on the company’s Facebook pages in a feature they’ve dubbed, “It’s Drew O’Clock!”.

“During the heyday of the Rocky Mountain News, I became a big fan of Drew Litton’s work. It appears that I was not alone. Drew’s cartoons have the ability to bring home a Colorado sports story with emotion, humor and a style that is undoubtedly all his own,” says Jerry Healey, president of Colorado Community Media.

“Readers of our newspapers and websites will delight in Drew’s work. For some, it will be a rediscovery and for others, an introduction to this truly unique and talented Denver gem,” Healey adds.

Colorado Community Media’s publications include The Arvada Press, the Brighton Banner, the Castle Pines News-Press, the Castle Rock News-Press, the Centennial Citizen, the Douglas County News-Press, the Elbert County News, the Englewood Herald, the Foothills Transcript, the Golden Transcript, the Highlands Ranch Herald, the Lakewood Sentinel, the Littleton Independent, the Lone Tree Voice, The Northglenn-Thornton Sentinel, the Parker Chronicle, the Pikes Peak Courier, the South Platte Independent, the Teller County Extra, the Tri-Lakes Tribune, the Westminster Window and the Wheat Ridge Transcript.
