Time Out for this Public Service Announcement
This was one of those cartoons that I just needed to get out of my system. Perhaps because I find myself in the same predicament as the guy in the third panel, perhaps because I find it so outrageous that someone is getting $42 Million just to sign a contract. The money is guaranteed. We have lost so much perspective in this modern era of sports. Players are coddled early, never told no, and pretty much spend their lives oblivious to the outside world. So this cartoon is for all of you out there who sometimes feel like we have it all backwards. That teachers and firemen and people who help people are the ones who should be given the huge salaries. This one is for those of you who feel perhaps that life isn’t fair (it isn’t) and just want to scream at the injustice of it all. This one’s for you.

It Was Ugly
It was a bit like watching the last lap of yesterday’s NASCAR race. Thankfully no one got hurt, at least not yet. Watching an egotistical young coach in completely over his head is not a pretty picture, especially when he’s the one at the wheel of the franchise you bleed orange for. To say this draft was a mess is an understatement. Perhaps the worst defensive team in the NFL, Josh McDaniels and company did little to help their anemic situation. They spent the off-season signing free agent running backs and then drafted one with the number 12 in the first round. They spent next years first round pick to choose a guy in this years SECOND round. Finally, they traded up for a 6th round pick for a quarterback I guess because his name “sounded” like Tom Brady. Hard to believe McDaniels could blow anything worse than the Jay Cutler debacle, but I think he did.
Now let me hear what you think.

Caption contest continues
Great response over the weekend, even considering the technical glitches that wouldn’t let all of you enter on Friday. Sorry about that. Technology. When it’s good it’s really good, but when it’s bad…

TGIF It’s Caption Contest day.
OK Broncos fans. It’s time to take out those pencils, and be funny. We need captions. Lots and lots of them. And here’s the deal. This week the winner gets the original cartoon and a Fraternal of Order of Pigskin T-shirt. Then I’ll pick TWO runners up and they will get a free t-shirt a quick personalized sketch of John Elway. Aww. What the heck. Let’s throw in an Elway sketch for the winner too! Keep the captions clean and original. Have Fun Out There.

Turduckens For All!
Great job this week on the Madden captions. We had quite a few finalists and Ryan won out by combining the right elements. Ryan wins the original and a t-shirt. Don’t dismay those who finished out of the running. There’s always a new Caption Contest next week.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The odds aren't good. Simply put waiting for an NBA player to make a free throw is a bit like waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series. It just ain't gonna happen. At least in our lifetimes. It reminds me of one of my favorite stories. Legendary basketball coach Don Haskins, all 250 plus pounds of him, had a player who apparently thought a bit highly of himself and didn't find his deficiency at the free throw line to be that big of a deal. Haskins challenged him to a free throw contest and let the kid go first. The kid hit a couple out of 10 or so and proudly handed old man Haskins the ball. After the coach hit his 100th in a row without a miss the kid learned his lesson. Don't argue with the Bear. And learn to shoot free throws.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
