Let’s face it, our kids aren’t safe most anywhere these days. First it was total strangers. Then it was priests. Now we have to keep them away from coaches and teachers who prey on the innocent. Really, what has our world come to?

Will they or won’t they? That is the question. Or is it more Who cares if they do or Who cares if the don’t?
I would be firmly planted in that last group.

I’m still trying to get used to this blogging thing even after 2 and a half years into it. Not sure what works and what doesn’t and not sure what to share and what to leave out. Sometimes I’d like to talk about more than just sports. I know it’s all people are used to me being, a sports cartoonist, doing mostly local Colorado cartoons with the occasional (two times a week at least) national sports cartoon thrown in for good measure. But there is more to life for me than just sports cartoons.
Sometimes feel only like posting the cartoons. (this is sounding very Andy Rooneyish, isn’t it). I wish I could spend more time with your comments. But time is tough to come by these days with the freelance work I do.
So I guess for now the blog is what it is. I hope that is good enough for now.

Remember SMU? Remember the Death Penalty? Well, there’s a good chance that Miami Hurricane football is about to get their just sentence. The scandal that has rocked the sports world in the last 24 hours is about to claim one of the “biggies” in NCAA football. Regardless of much needed reform in the NCAA, the violations that have been reported are stunning. A booster supplying money, cars, yacht trips, jewelry, televisions and other gifts to a list of players including Vince Wilfork, Jon Beason, Antrel Rolle, Devin Hester, Willis McGahee and the late Sean Taylor. The booster also claimed he paid for nightclub outings, sex parties, restaurant meals and in one case, an abortion for a woman impregnated by a player.

This is beyond ugly. This is an horrific example of the worst slime and sleaze that can happen in sports at any level. It will be interesting to see how the NCAA deal with this. Miami is big money to the NCAA and it’s televised audience.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The odds aren't good. Simply put waiting for an NBA player to make a free throw is a bit like waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series. It just ain't gonna happen. At least in our lifetimes. It reminds me of one of my favorite stories. Legendary basketball coach Don Haskins, all 250 plus pounds of him, had a player who apparently thought a bit highly of himself and didn't find his deficiency at the free throw line to be that big of a deal. Haskins challenged him to a free throw contest and let the kid go first. The kid hit a couple out of 10 or so and proudly handed old man Haskins the ball. After the coach hit his 100th in a row without a miss the kid learned his lesson. Don't argue with the Bear. And learn to shoot free throws.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
