I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anything in sports quite as heartbreaking as the Derrick Rose injury that occurred late saturday afternoon in the Bulls first playoff game. I did one cartoon for the Chicago Tribune (below) on Saturday evening for their Sunday paper and one for Universal Press Syndicate (above). Comparative studies on the same topic. Which one do you like best?
If you haven’t already seen this terrific article in the New York Times by Richard Sandomir I would invite you to take the time to check it out. It explains an all too painful truth that we are precariously close to losing an art form.
And be sure to take a look at this article on my site by Murray Olderman about the Art and History of Sports Cartooning. I’ve added a few things to it myself.
Dispatches from the Drawing Board
- This cartoon is from this weekends Chicago Tribune. The Blackhawks are raising ticket prices, which , of course, is never very popular.
- Kentucky vs. Kansas should be great fun. I’m rooting for the little bird!
- Looking forward to a more creative week. I spent last week teaching for Art Reach, kids from age 5 to 14. It takes me out of the “zone” if you will and makes it a little more of a challenge to just “chill” and draw funny pictures.
- So give me your predictions on tomorrow nights big grand finale!
