I suppose it’s debatable but Peyton Manning has been the NFL’s best quarterback for some time now. The recent news that Manning’s neck injury is slow to heal is cause for concern for Colts fans everywhere. Here’s hoping we haven’t seen the last of an NFL great.

The Buffs open a new era today as they take on Hawaii. At stake is the Buffs 18 road game losing streak not to mention the need to reconnect with Buffs fans and donors who became disillusioned and snubbed by Dan Hawkins and his indifference to the tradition of Colorado football. And I’m excited beyond words because starting today and every day the Buffs play a game, I’ll be doing Buffs cartoons for the Boulder Daily Camera and their Buff Zone coverage. Most of the time that will be on Saturday. Later in the season the Buffs have a few games on Friday, so I’ll be drawing for that. Here’s the Buffs 2011 schedule, considered the most difficult in the nation.

Starting tomorrow I’ll be drawing Buffs cartoons for the Boulder Daily Camera! I’ll draw one each week the day of the game, kind of a preview cartoon if you will called Drew on CU.  Also the Daily Camera has already set up a place where you can got to order prints, t-shirts and other fun stuff from all of the Buffs cartoons I’ll be doing. How cool is that. Again my thanks to Jen Osieczanek as well as editor Kevin Kaufman for making this happen and giving me a chance to to do something I love, drawing for the fans of Colorado and the Buffs!

College really is supposed to be about learning. Well, that and the kegs of beer, but I digress. You’d think someone, the NCAA, the schools themselves could find a better way to handle the recent rash of scandals that have rocked college football. But as they say, “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”

But what the heck. We all just want to see some football don’t we? Say Amen! So let’s kick this season off and get on with it shall we!

I’m not doing Fantasy Football this year. Too many things going on in my world. But ’tis the season and I know tons of you are holding drafts and buying magazines and pouring over stats. Hope you have fun with it. This is a cartoon that I did for Universal Press syndicate. Hope you enjoy.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The odds aren't good. Simply put waiting for an NBA player to make a free throw is a bit like waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series. It just ain't gonna happen. At least in our lifetimes. It reminds me of one of my favorite stories. Legendary basketball coach Don Haskins, all 250 plus pounds of him, had a player who apparently thought a bit highly of himself and didn't find his deficiency at the free throw line to be that big of a deal. Haskins challenged him to a free throw contest and let the kid go first. The kid hit a couple out of 10 or so and proudly handed old man Haskins the ball. After the coach hit his 100th in a row without a miss the kid learned his lesson. Don't argue with the Bear. And learn to shoot free throws.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
