newvonn

Are you as tired of Lindsey Vonn coverage as I am? Let me know. I thought today would be a good day for a poll on the new blog look. Please let me know what you like and don’t like about the site.

I’m still absorbing the difficult news we heard tonight about Nuggets coach George Karl. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. This cartoon was done earlier in the day and actually aired on 9News.

Changes were definitely need at the Luge track after the traffic accident on Friday that claimed the life of Nodar Kumaritashvili. There a lot of allegation floating around and apparently the Candians are fuming over their “loss” of home ice advantage. Since when did hosting the Olympics give the hosting country to tailor the venues to provide an advantage for their own athletes. It goes against everything the Olympic spirit stands for. It’s such a shame that it has come to this. Don’t you think?

Nodar-tirbute

What a horrible way to start the games. Word has it that many people complained about the luge track being too fast. Three crashes on Friday, one ending in the tragic loss of a young promising athlete. There will be more on this story but I wanted to share this cartoon from Saturdays Chicago Tribune.

newvonn conditions

This week has been a bit crazy, with all of the changes here, but I thought it was appropriate to finish with this cartoon about Lindsey Vonn. Her story will unfold throughout the weekend and it will be interesting to see the outcome. My predicition is that she will gut it out and compete as best she can. I still think she’ll medal. Have a great weekend and thank you all for hanging in there this week with the site. I’ll be putting a poll up next week to get a feel for how you like the site and what else I can do to make it worth your daily readership.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The odds aren't good. Simply put waiting for an NBA player to make a free throw is a bit like waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series. It just ain't gonna happen. At least in our lifetimes. It reminds me of one of my favorite stories. Legendary basketball coach Don Haskins, all 250 plus pounds of him, had a player who apparently thought a bit highly of himself and didn't find his deficiency at the free throw line to be that big of a deal. Haskins challenged him to a free throw contest and let the kid go first. The kid hit a couple out of 10 or so and proudly handed old man Haskins the ball. After the coach hit his 100th in a row without a miss the kid learned his lesson. Don't argue with the Bear. And learn to shoot free throws.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
