And now we interrupt the Josh vs. Jay brawl to bring you a little something called March Madness.
Just a little break from the meltdown at Dove Valley. Here’s a little March Madness humor for you. I always love this time of year when brackets become the language of choice.
Attention all former Rocky subscribers.
I want to alert all of you to the latest incarnation of the Rocky. If you haven’t seen the announcement that came down yesterday about many of the former staff members from the Rocky Mountain News continuing on in an online form please go to this link called http://www.indenvertimes.com/. I encourage all of you to consider subscribing to this new venture. As you know the newspaper industry is facing difficult and challenging times. There must be a change in the business model for the existence of newspapers to survive. I know some will ask why pay for something you get for free online. Good valid question. The new direction of the Rocky will include free content, but much like ESPN online, there will be a lot more content available to you if you are a subscriber. The interesting thing about this new online news product is that it is making the greatest use of multiple platforms technologically. Most newspapers ( my guess 99.9% of them) have merely tried to apply their print version of a paper into an online format. The entire product, instead, needs to be built from the ground up, which is exactly what this new venture will do. It will be an online newspaper product like you have never seen. Overall Newspapers are vital to objective reporting and the preservation of the American democracy depends on news sources whose content you can trust. I do not, at this time, know if I will be a part of this new Rocky adventure. I have several options I am exploring to continue my career. In time, I hope to share what those may be. But until then, please join me as a subscriber to this daring bold new Newspaper product.

No Peace in the Valley
It was hard enough to grasp the firing of Mike Shanahan. But even more stunning may be the events of the last few weeks and the mess that has emerged between the Broncos new head coach and their franchise quarterback. On one hand you have a new inexperienced head coach who has not yet witnessed his first practice as an NFL head coach and a young promising quarterback who just played his first pro bowl.
With Cutler now requesting a trade, and refusing to show up on the first day of mini-camp, his actions have undermined the authority of McDaniels from which I don’t think he will ever recover. In a sense, McDaniels has lost the team before he has even started. Yes, Cutler has acted immaturely. Yes, he too has hurt his image that will most likely haunt him for the rest of his career. But the real damage that all of this has inflicted is aimed at the very heart of the Broncos organization. The result is devastating, and is most likely to last until McDaniels is replaced as the head coach, an event not likely to happen anytime in the near future. McDaniels hast lost the trust of an entire team. That is wound not easily healed, not easily mended. Have another opinion? Or agree with me? Please comment away.
It’s with great sadness that I send my condolences to the family of Rocky writer James Meadow. James was one of the most truly gifted writers on the Rocky Mountain News staff. James passed last night after injuries sustained in a bike accident at Chatfield Reservoir on Friday. Denver has lost a treasure.
