Mile High Sports Toon & Strasburg on ESPN

I’ve got a bunch of cartoons in the June issue of Mile High Sports Magazine. This is one of my favorites. Ya gotta see ‘em in print. They’re out now across the metro area.
I also have a Stephen Strasburg cartoon over on ESPN about one of the most amazing debuts in Major League History. It should be live by 9 or so EST.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Hey! Some Super Cool News to share with you tomorrow so be sure to toon back in.
This cartoon is an example of one of the many reasons why I no longer play golf anymore. If you want solitude, the golf course is NOT the place to find it.

Sports Coverage

Sports Coverage
This cartoon I think pretty well sums up the state of sports these days. You can’t turn on the TV, surf the internet or buy a paper without Sex Scandals all over the sports section. I’m not quite sure where everything spun out of control but suffice to say, sports will never be the same.

A Few New Items
I’ve started another blog all about comics and cartooning and my life as a cartoonist called Tales from the Looney Pen. There’s a widget in the sidebar. Please check it out. It may not be your cup of tea but I’d love to see all of you join me for some fun over there as well as here.

And in the menu bar at the top of the page you’ll notice DrewTube (I know, I know, it’s corny) which will be a place to see the all of the Webcast archives. I’m aiming for my first webcast this Friday May 14th. Oh, and there should be a cartoon on Friday as well. It will be a busy week. I’m working on a cool assignment for the June issue of Mile High Sports magazine!

Golf: The Agony of Defeat

Golf is one of the most torturous games on the planet. I think the cartoons I enjoy drawing the most are the ones like this one. I think a lot of people can relate to this one and I love when something I draw connects on that level. I don’t play golf anymore. The insurance company wouldn’t cover the people I was playing with for catastrophic injury. I’ve been known to people with an errant shot or two. I can relate to the infamous words of Fuzzy Zoeller, who I heard tell a gallery at Castle Pines to move back a bit. “Trust me. The way I’m hitting the ball, you don’t want to be standing there”.

This cartoon is from the May issue of Mile High Sports Magazine. Grab a copy if you can. it looks much better in print.

No webcast for today. I need a week to work out the kinks and clean up my studio enough that it doesn’t resemble a scene from Sanford and Son.

Have a terrific and wonderful Mothers day weekend.

Golfers: The Weekend Warriors

Duffers Delight
I love doing golf cartoons. This one was recently featured in the Chicago Tribunes golf guide. I always have a blast drawing about weekend golfers. I used to be one. But I gave it up because no one would insure me with a driver in my hand.

9News update
We’ve made some adjustments in the 9News schedule. I’ll be drawing cartoons for them during the Broncos season instead of the usual twice a week that I’ve been doing. I’m excited to still be a part of the great team at 9News and I think appearing during the Broncos season will allow me to focus the content a bit more, which I really like. I’m so looking forward to drawing more Broncos cartoons! It should be a blast.

Another take on Tiger

This take on Tiger was done for United Features Syndicate. One of the reasons I’m doing so many Tiger related cartoons is the multiple clients I have that need or want one. This was a parody of the (creepy) Nike ad on TV and the Saturday Night live skit. I just thought the scene on the green at the Masters with the Mickelson’s was so amazing. Much like the Drew Brees Super Bowl pictures of he and his son, the images from the Masters will long be an indelible memory of the event years from now.
That said, I still haven’t gotten a Tiger caricature that I’m pleased with.

Tiger Watch: Sunday funnies

Sunday Funnies

Here’s one for you Sunday Morning Breakfast. A little fun about watching the Masters fresh from Saturday mornings Chicago Tribune. I’ll be drawing a cartoon after the Masters tomorrow night as well for ESPN.com’s commentary page. Be sure to stop by.

Tiger Woods: On the Bubble & ESPN Cartoon on Duke-Butler

I survived yesterday in sports…Now where’s the t-shirt?
I don’t know if you feel that way but I know I do. Wow. The Duke-Butler Championship game was beyond amazing. It reminds me why I love sports so much, when an underdog can give a heavyweight all it wants and more. Too bad Butler didn’t pull it out.
But I love the lesson it teaches us all. Anything is possible. Don’t quit. And don’t let anyone tell you you aren’t good enough.
Great to see a Rockies win on opening day. Friday should be fun here at home. This might be the first opening day I don’t make it to. My Fridays have become pretty busy. How about you ? Anybody score tickets? Tell me, tell me.

Clearly this will be a week about Tiger. I only caught highlights of his press conference yesterday but what I saw I was very impressed by. He seemed genuinely contrite. Now comes walking the walk, not just talking the talk. The rest of Tiger’s week will be in a very controlled environment media wise. Hence, the cartoon.

Got a new cartoon on the Butler-Duke game over on ESPN.. Hopefully it will be posted by the time you see this.
Hope you have a great day!

Tiger Woods: Welcome to the TGA

youknowwho

Tiger Returns.
Are you ready for it? Naw. me either. Be thankful you don’t have tickets to the Masters. It will be about as much fun as a root canal. If you even so much as blink in Tigers direction you’ll find yourself tossed out with the afternoon trash. This year the Masters isn’t a golf tournament, it’s a reality show.

Saints Prints
Better late than never. This is a test run. I think the price point is fairly affordable and the prints do look great. The process takes you through Paypal which should send me an e-mail after you order there.

Added Link to Prostate Cancer Foundation
I’ve added a link in the side bar for those of you who would like to make a donation to fight the battle against Prostate cancer. The link is in memory of singer songwriter Dan Fogelberg who lost his battle with cancer in 2007. I had the good fortune of interviewing Dan several times in the 80’s and have always felt a kindred spirit creatively. There’s also various information about PSA testing. Vital to guys over 45.
This link will be a permanent part of the site. I fought my own battle against testicular cancer in 2000 and felt like this was the right thing to do at the right time. So feel free to honor George Karl in his battle.

Jean Fogelberg, Dan’s wife, has started an amazing website called DontLoseHeart.org. It’s a site for care giver’s who must face their own challenges in the the midst of family illness. Having filled that role for others in my own life as well, it can be a lonely and stressful time for those who care for loved ones in need. I know, not sports, but highly recommended.
