Broncos: A Very Wild and Crazy Ride

Uncategorized

Every cartoon I draw is a judgement call. Whether it’s during the initial stages of thought process where I weed through all of the ideas I’m mulling over to find the one I think works best, or with an editor looking over roughs I send him who then helps me to pick the best one, it often comes down to the luck of the draw (no pun intended) as to which cartoon sees the light of day. I often have multiple “layers” of roughs I keep in the drawing program I use with the computer tablet I draw on, that usually get tossed once I draw the final cartoon. This time I thought, what the heck, it’s the end of the Broncos season, so why not ink and color one of the roughs I didn’t use for 9News on Sunday night. So you here you are. One from the cutting room floor. Enjoy.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

ITs been quite a season out there in denver. Tim helped grow the bronco’s nation with his winning performances and never say die attitude. They should not have any problems with renewals of season tickets out there in denver!

and now there are 4- and only 3 games in the football season that actually count! then its back to the hgtv on the weekends, lots of bike rides and fresh air and sunshine!

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best!

  2. Dear Drew,

Yeah, this season had all the excitement of an 8 second bull ride but lasting since game 6. Hopefully next season we will have as good a season with less anxiety.

    All the best

    Louis

  3. Hi Drew

Longtime reader, firsttime poster here. I enjoy your cartoons very much and check here every other day.

I’m a huge saints fan but I’ve been rooting for Tebow ever since he came into the league. I know the feeling you are portraying here from the Saints 06 season and even though we came up short that year.

It will remain in my heart as the 2nd bet season ever (I’ll let you guess which season was the best.)

I wish he best of luck to you, TIm Tebow, and all of Bronconation and I’m holding out hope for a Broncos – Saints Super Bowl next year.

  4. This so captures the feeling! For some reason that lost, kicked in the stomach, what do I now feeling has not surfaced this year. I feel satisfied with the season. Weird.

  5. Drew–

I’m glad you rescued this one from the bit bucket. Love the ornery expression on the horse’s face.

  6. Drew,

If this is what ends up on your cutting room floor, give me the broom and I’ll save them for you! I LOVE this cartoon! It very well captures the ride we Bronco fans have been on this year. From the strike to a shortened pre-season, from the boredom of Orton to the excitement of Tebowmania from week 5 to the first round of playoffs – YOWZA! I’m saddle-sore just thinking about it! (Good thing I have extra padding to soften the bumpy ride! 😉 )

    You’re simply, the best!

  7. Drew,

This is so reminiscent of the ‘toon you did for the Rox’s season a couple years ago. I seem to remember it was a roller-coaster in that one. After the Donkos lost on Saturday, I kept checking your site hoping to see a toon like this one capturing the zeitgeist of the season. Thank you for not only entertaining us, but chronicling Denver sports history!

    Mike

P.S. Thank you for bringing the scroll-style screen back. Much better, especially with the blue theme!
