Roxtickets

The addition of Jason Giambi to the Rockies lineup certainly is an indication of the seriousness the franchise is placing on this run to the pennant. It comes at a perfect time too. After seeing those first two Broncos exhibition games, the Rockies simply MUST stay in contention. Otherwise what will we do when October rolls around?

    Good Morning from Omaha,
fans flock to a winner. In KC they can’t seemingly wait until football season, the Royals are that bad.
Up to 5 loses in a row. the rockies are on a roll and might get into the playoffs.
Strive for excellence nothing but your best.

Being able to say that I was apart of somthing really special last night going to the Rockies game well…Its nothing that I will forget anytime soon. It was really really long first of all, and there were so many men left on base that it was disgusting. Bad base running and poor judgements were also somthing that need to improve by the end of the season or it will be a short playoff run. On the other hand, my hats off to that never give up spirt the ROX had last night. They looked like they were beaten and it was feeling really dark there going into the bottom of the fourteenth. When Spilly hit that Grand Slam it felt like September two years ago. The feeling was so deja-vu!! What a feeling last night, unbeliveable!!!
Sandy gave some good points on The Fan yesterday afternoon. The ROX were actually playing a bad Giants team that got some lucky breaks during the series here in Denver. The pitching on both sides were bad and it just happend that the ROX could pull off such a victory on Saturday and Sunday. Is it just me or do the Rockies look really good against bad teams and play crappy against good teams? I dont need more proof than last night that the ROX have heart, but is it enough talent to get past the Yankees in the World Series?

I had one more thing to add to the above comment. I found it really upsetting that the Rockies did not make the top highlights on ESPN’s MIKE and MIKE show this morning on the radio’s “what everyone will be talking about?” part of the show where people everywhere will be discussing the topics of the day weather it would be at work, school, etc, etc. Its convienent that when the Red Sox or the Yankees have a walk off home run they will report it evry five minutes or have long radio time talking about every movement of the ball leaving the yard. How can it be that a walk off grand slam in the fourteenth inning is not “what everyone is talking about”. One of the things what they said “what everyone will be talking about” is a freakin punter hitting the damn scoreboard in Cowboys stadium. Whoopidie Doooo!!! A punter is getting more respect than the Rockies, I mean REALLY!!!?? Are u serious?????!!! Walkoff home run fourteenth or punter, do the math put it on the scale. Weigh the headlines. Poor reporting for teams that are making waves in baseball or any sport for that matter besides the usuall Yankees, Red Sox, Lakers, and Patriots is getting really old. I am so tired of the disrespect of the Colorado teams in the national sports shows. The only thing that the Rockies earned was a “highlight of the night” on the ESPN home page. Its not like everyone has a computer!!! I was so excited to hear our announcers on the radio other than the local news, and for it to be skipped was a huge slap in the face for a team that is working so hard with hearts bigger than you can imagine. I am sick! Gotta go for now.

Aren’t we lucky to live in a city where we have such a variety of professional sports that we usually have at least ONE team that doesn’t suck? It probably saves lives! It’s nice not to have to depend on one team for happiness.

I was at Saturday’s game and the crowd then was as electric as the great crowds the Nuggets had during their playoff run. I’m enjoying this season. I knew the Rox couldn’t have been as bad as they looked early in the year.

I have no problem with the Giambi signing. It’s really low risk. I’m hoping we can get a comfortable enough lead (preferably division, but I’ll settle for a comfortable wildcard lead) to let some of our everyday players some days off down the stretch.

great cartoon! i’m from Colorado but have been living in asia for a few years – far enough from the disaster of news that the broncos have been producing, and too far from the joy that is the Rockies 2009 season.

i love the Giambi signing even if it amounts to nothing, it shows that the Rox are making a concerted effort to support this incredible cast with depth to win this year. That’s what a playoff push is all about.

thanks for the update, i don’t get a lot of news (in fact I found out about this signing from seeing your cartoon) i follow your blog over here, so thanks for the updates and the reminders of home!

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The odds aren't good. Simply put waiting for an NBA player to make a free throw is a bit like waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series. It just ain't gonna happen. At least in our lifetimes. It reminds me of one of my favorite stories. Legendary basketball coach Don Haskins, all 250 plus pounds of him, had a player who apparently thought a bit highly of himself and didn't find his deficiency at the free throw line to be that big of a deal. Haskins challenged him to a free throw contest and let the kid go first. The kid hit a couple out of 10 or so and proudly handed old man Haskins the ball. After the coach hit his 100th in a row without a miss the kid learned his lesson. Don't argue with the Bear. And learn to shoot free throws.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
