Repulsive
My one word that sums up Mark McGwire and the entire era of steroids in baseball. I felt like this needed a stark strong statement kind of cartoon. But, frankly, I really tired of drawing them. Can’t baseball just have a come-out-of-the-closet day and get it over with already. Hmmm. Sounds like a cartoon idea. I’m really interested to hear your feedback on this topic. So jump right in.
Oh but before you do…Thanks to everyone who took time to answer my recent poll. I know it was long but it helps me to see ways to improve the site.

  1. John says:

At least we know Barry and Sammy are clean.

  2. Gordo says:

This one doesn’t surprise me at all. I knew back then he was on steroids and just wasn’t going to admit it then. I am glad he did finally come clean though. I do believe he does deserve to be in the hall of fame because sadly when compared to other players in his era Mark McGwire was one of the best. Yes he was on steroids but so were many others in MLB at that time (I would estimate about 70-80% in my opinion). The real shame is to Roger Maris and to all the other ball players who should have been in the spotlight but weren’t because they stayed clean.

  3. Sherri says:

All of baseball should be ashamed for this. But do we as fans also have some culpability? We all claim to have known that this was going on, but continued to pay for tickets, watch on TV. And by doing so, encouraged everyone in the game to look the other way. Cheered on the players we liked, and suspected, but booed the Barrys.
Maybe there should be a Steroid Hall Fame and a steriod records book? I like the idea of a “coming out” day, a day of clemency, get it done and over with.

    GMFO,
    wow, late as usual.
just like mark, late with the apology. and now tony larussa is trying to cover his backside so he can get into the hall of fame claiming ignorance of Mark’s medication.
now all of a sudden mark wants a job with the cardinals as a hitting coach so he has to come clean or get a job where the line “would you like fries with that” is included in the daily conversation.
turn on the lights and watch all the roaches scatter.
strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  5. Pandapeep says:

I dunno, to me, steroids is like arguing about a shoe that makes an guy run faster, or jump higher. They only hurt the player who uses them, and lets face facts, Mark McMaguire would have been a good to great baseball player without them. Roids doesn’t give you a better eye to see the pitch and he was a monster even before he took them.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The odds aren't good. Simply put waiting for an NBA player to make a free throw is a bit like waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series. It just ain't gonna happen. At least in our lifetimes. It reminds me of one of my favorite stories. Legendary basketball coach Don Haskins, all 250 plus pounds of him, had a player who apparently thought a bit highly of himself and didn't find his deficiency at the free throw line to be that big of a deal. Haskins challenged him to a free throw contest and let the kid go first. The kid hit a couple out of 10 or so and proudly handed old man Haskins the ball. After the coach hit his 100th in a row without a miss the kid learned his lesson. Don't argue with the Bear. And learn to shoot free throws.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
