Amazing what a difference a year can make
Gone are the sullen days of Allen Iverson. Behind Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony, with contributions from Birdzilla and J.R. Smith the Nuggets disposed of the Hornets and cruised into round Two of the NBA playoffs. Finally, the long drought for the Nuggets is over. The Hanzlik, and Issel eras are only vanishing visions in the rear view mirror. And, more importantly, Melo has learned how to win. I’ve been pretty rough on Melo through the years. But I’m glad to see him take this team into the second round. The Nuggets are the team nobody wants to play. Hang on. It might be a nice long fun ride.

Caption Contest winding down
This week’s caption contest is coming to a close. We’ll take entries until 6 p.m. tonight. So run, hurry, and write lots of captions. The more you enter the better your chances.

    good morning from Omaha,
So the nuggs made it to round two. My sister in Dallas is a big MAVs fan and is excited about them making it to round 2. Thinks the mavs will beat the Nuggs, called them Evil.
I don’t know if they are evil but they are much better than some people, me, thought they would be.
Heck i don’t follow basketball to the point that except for Dirk and Mark Cuban, I couldn’t think of another player on the mavs.
Stay on top of Melo and the Nugggets. They may be responding to your cartoonish spotlight and really it doesn’t matter what they are responding to , the are responding. so ride the wave while you can, before you end up in the Lakers.
gotta go, strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

THAT’S RIGHT….. Its amazing how success has moved from the Broncos and Avs to the Rockies and Nuggets. Makes all this McDaniels stuff sting a little bit less…..Good toon, Drew. Also liked your 9news spot… I have deemed it cubicle wall worthy.

  3. Luke says:

Wow, you are a microcosm of Denver sports fandom. Bandwagon jumping at it’s finest.

Remember this gem from a summer ago?

Where, oh, where have the Nuggets fans gone, oh, where, oh where can they beeeee?

  5. gene says:

    Drew,
you are so clever…I love you extra cartoons on 9news. the chauncey jet and paper airplane is funny as is the quarterback list of bronco needs.
They must all be out playing basketball!!!!
Now i have to check two sources to be thoroughly entertained in the morning.( with apologies to MRS gene.

  6. Derek says:

Let it be know, the nuggets will beat the mavs in 5 games, JR will hit 12 3s in Cuban’s stadium,(in one night), and the lakers will meet a team on fire in the western confernce finals.

  7. Drew says:

    now that’s more like it.

  8. Derek says:

Anyone else think if the Nuggets make the finals all the games at home should be played in the old ’88 uniform, just for the sheer awsomeness of it?

  9. Derek says:

You know what, scratch that. Bring back the rainbow skyline logo with on the powder blue jerseys, it would be so cool all other teams would have to improve their jeseys to keep from looking tacky.

  10. Derek says:

While im here, Drew why arent you in the Dever Post? They’d double their subscriptions by adding you.

  11. Pat says:

If you really want to show your fandom get an Alex English throwback and where it to the second round. Isnt it scary the Nuggets may be the best ran franchise in Denver!! It is wierd to say that after all the bad years and bad trades/moves.
