Sometimes Monday just comes too quick. and other times, well, it takes 26 years. It’s long been a dream of mine to be a part of the ESPN.com team, just like it was to draw for the Chicago Tribune. What do ya know. Dreams do come true. Today I start drawing for ESPN.com once a week (6 times a month actually). Check out the Drew debut here (after 9:00 a.m. EST). Wow! What a Sunday. Broncos and Brackets. Well, as you know by now The Broncos trade Peyton Hillis and a 2011 (6th round) and a 2012 (TBD). I personally like the deal ( you might not know it from the cartoon). I think Quinn has quite an upside. And for Peyton Hillis who wasn’t going to play anyway, it’s a low risk low cost deal.

Umm, I wanted to vote yes because I like the trade (as much as I will miss Peyton Hillis), but he is not an improvement over Orton and will be playing the backup role, so I had to chose the last option.
In my opinion, Cleveland made a mistake letting this guy go. He has a lot of potential, but was badly underdeveloped as an NFL quarterback under Crennel. I’d watch the preseason and see if Quinn can steal the starting QB position from Orton, now that he has weapons to aim to.

Just a thought…I think this is a good deal for the Broncos. I don’t think Peyton Hillis will ever be the player he was before the torn hamstring. Quinn was one of the QB’s the Broncos targeted BEFORE they settled on Orton. Quinn could be a good quarterback coach away from being a really good young quarterback. Overall, it was a risk worth taking because I’d take a Brady Quinn laying flat on his back over Chris Simms any day.

Sometimes a player just doesn’t get the coaching he needs to succeed early on. So much of throwing with accuracy is about technique, footwork, release point etc. I’m not saying it’s a for sure, some guys just don’t have it. But a player that young is certainly worth the risk of dealing Peyton Hillis who was never in the mix for McDaniels anyway.
So we got Brady Quinn who might be coached up to a decent QB for a FB and two draft choices. Interesting. After seeing Sims flop against San Diego last year, Quinn is certainly welcome to the team.
I am heartsick to Hillis go. He stepped up in 2008 gave his all and really performed for the team. Whatever happened with Hillis and McDaniels destroyed Hillis’ future with Denver. Sad to see a player with such heart go on his way. Hopefully he can resurrect his career with the Browns.
A tough trade, but a good one for the team.

its really to tell what quinn can be. Mike golic from espn’s mike and mike is deeply and passionately in love with him. golic is a golden domer himself so it might be a little bit a narcissisim,
get him a coach and surround him with better players and see what happens. Its not even the pre season yet.
On another note, denver was beautiful. Saturday was 61 and sunny. our son played football down by the jackie robinson baseball field. He said it was an old air force base. Had a great time with the b-ball game saturday night, My wife even said that saturday in denver was like a vacation.

let quinn “the eskimo” get acclimated to whats going on around him before you throw him under a bus for KC and charlie weiss.lots of NFL quarterbacks have bounced around some before figuring out the league.
Even Saint Lennie was a no one before meeting his future in KC.

Drew you know me, thinking the worst first. I am not sure about this Quinn idea? History of mistakes seem to follow todays quaterbacks in todays NFL. Somthing is telling me to give Brady Quinn a chance, I gotta a funny feeling that this could be a great trade that Cleavland will once again regret. After all the Broncos ALWAYS have their number. Somthing to think about…..
I love Peyton Hillis when he played. But, you’re right. If he’s not going to play, send him somewhere where hopefully he WILL play. Quinn is really still an unknown. I think he’ll be a solid backup for Orton this year, but with some real coaching, who knows? Maybe he’ll blossom. Honestly, we didn’t give up much for him.

I loved Hillis when he was healthy. Reminded me a lot of a Dallas player in the 70′s named Walt Garrison, who was my absolute favorite Cowboy when I was growing up in West Texas. I just think either Josh didn’t like him or he has never fully recovered from the torn hamstring.
Well said. I never thought I would agree with this opinion, but I’m starting to view things from a different view. I have to research more on this as it seems very interesting. One thing I don’t get though is how everything is related together.

I love this trade. If you remember the game we had against them two years ago, we really tried to get at Quinn and rattle him, and we couldn’t. He showed poise and a quick release in that game. I think he’s more athletic than KO, and will eventually take over (though I’ve been pleasantly surprised with Orton). Quinn also seems to have a lot of passion for the game, and seemed to have his teammates behind him.
I’m not sure I agree that Hillis will never be the player he was before the injury. Based on the little we saw of him in preseason and in the first KC game, he seemed like his old self. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did great for Cleveland. He might remind them a bit of Kevin Mack. He’s a huge talent. But for whatever reason, we weren’t gonna use him, so we really didn’t give up much in this trade. It could be the rare deal that benefits both sides.
By the way, good call on Garrison. He’s got a little Riggins in him too. It would be ironic if we draft Gerhart…
I really am on the fence with the trade but then again I wish little Joshy would go home to dad Bill. I hope all the hype that Quinn has had he can live up to here. To me trading Peyton is telling the fans that we may like him but little Joshy is not going to listen to anyone!!!! Congrats Drew on getting on with ESPN!!!! Hope it is a nice long run you have there!!!!

As for Brady Quinn, ND quarterbacks have not been all that impressive of late. But my first thoughts were perhaps with a good coach this kid could be something. Most likely this is just wishful thinking on my part for a quarterback to lead us back to the Land of Oz and happiness ever after.
Having lived in Denver for several years, I know for certain Quinn will get a lot of quality tail.
And that’s the only action he’ll see beyond the preseason.
