Back to School: I thought it might be a good day to take a break from the world of sports and to share this cartoon I did recently for the Metro North News here in Denver. It’s that time of year when everything gets a little crazy in households throughout the country and this image was just too much fun to draw. So here it is. Enjoy. Share it with some friends and I’ll be back with sports stuff on Thursday.

    Good Morning from Omaha,
On top of all these back to school sales, Iowa has a tax free weekend!!! Buy shoes or clothes with a value up to $100 and you pay NO sales tax. There were a lot of Nebraska cars across the river last weekend and not just at the casino’s over in Council Bluffs!!! I am glad we are past that kids back to school point in our lives. Oh wait, my wife the school teacher has kids starting tomorrow! Does that seem early to you?
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best!

Great work, Drew. Lots of good detail. That must have taken some time to draw, then color. I especially liked the columns of smoke in the background.

One question: Not to nitpick, but why does your caption read “Metro North News” and your signature read “North Metro News?” I run a site for one of your colleagues (John Branch – branchtoon.com), so I notice things like that now.

I never understood the appeal of Out-of-State trips to buy things tax-free:

Parent: “Texas had their Tax Holiday Sale!”
    Me: “Sweet! Wha’d you get?”
    Parent: “$120 in school supplies”
    Me: “That’s about…$11 in taxes?”
    Parent: “Yes! Great, huh!”
Me: “How far did you drive, round trip?”
    Parent: “Oh, about 100 miles.”
Me: “With your gas milage, that’s about…4 Gallons. Or, $11.50 in gas.”
    Parent: “So?”
    Me: *Facepalm*

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The World is in Chaos, The Economy is in the Dumpster...And Peyton Manning throws a Pass. Nice to know we have it all in perspective.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
