AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THOSE WHO READ MY CARTOONS: I’ve never met Gene Anderson, yet he has been a part of my life every single day since the News closed. For almost three solid years He has faithfully left me encouraging comments about the day’s cartoon on my blog site. Comments that have kept me at times from giving up the blog and moving on to other ventures. Tonight Gene is an Omaha hospital after having suffered an apparent stroke. I’m asking all of you for PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS to go his direction. He is a remarkable man, friend, brother, husband and father, and guys like that are rare. He needs us. Please feel free to leave him a note here. I know he’ll see them soon.

Gene, I don’t know you, but I know Drew and I know how much you mean to him. And if Drew says you’re the cat’s pajamas, you must be one heck of a guy. If Drew says “Pray for Gene,” I don’t ask questions, I just do it. So, God bless you and yours, Gene; may his healing power surround all of you.

    Hi, Gene…
You’ve been a great friend and encouragement to Drew and a huge inspiration to all of us who have had the pleasure to read your daily insights into the world of sports and really just life in general!
I’m sad to see that you’re in the hospital right now and I want you to know that you are for sure in my prayers right now.
I pray for God to give you and your precious family peace and comfort during this time of uncertainty and for His healing hand to be on you.

Well snap. Thank you for sharing this news with us Drew. I sure hate to read it though. I, too, have never met Gene other than through what he writes here. I have the disticnt feeling from reading his posts that he would be a friend in person. One of these days maybe I will even post something before he does. He must get the advance copy of your toons.
In all seriousness Gene and his loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers. May his recovery be complete. We know he will certainly strive for nothing but the best.
    Michael

    Hi Gene,
Good morning from Aurora! As others have said, I do not know you but when I read Drew’s post about your hospitalization I knew I had to say hello and wish you a speedy recovery. When I read Drew’s blog, I automatically expect to see your “Good morning from Omaha” comments as the first post. It will be strange not to see that for a while while you recover, but I know you will be back here soon! Until then, best wishes for a speedy recovery and good health in the future.

    Aylish

    Gene,

    Mike

  29. Harry Thomas says:

I don’t comment on every cartoon here, but I’ve shared a bit of space with Gene. In fact, every time I clicked on a toon with the intent to comment, I found that Gene had usually beaten me to it. If I managed to get in there first, I knew that I could come back later and find Gene’s thoughts.

Now you’re in all our thoughts, Gene. We all wish you Godspeed and a quick recovery. We know that you will continue to “strive for excellence, nothing but your best.”

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The World is in Chaos, The Economy is in the Dumpster...And Peyton Manning throws a Pass. Nice to know we have it all in perspective.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
