Priorities
We have them all wrong. From constant news coverage of Jodi Arias and OJ Simpson to athletes getting mega bucks for playing a game, our sense of what is important is completely and totally screwed up. You'd think that we might have learned something from the recent events in Boston. That heroes emerge from even the most difficult of circumstances, but, no, we return to the inane and inconsequential. Amanda Knox. Film at 11.
I drew this cartoon after reading the recent story about Andrew Wiggins, supposedly the "next" LeBron James, signing a letter of intent with Kansas. While Wiggins did his best to keep his signing from becoming too much of a circus, it still carried huge weight in the 24/7 news cycle. It made me think of the number of brilliant kids who will walk across graduation stages all over our country in the next few weeks, whose names are only heard as they stride forward to get their diplomas. No newspaper columns are written or press conferences held for valedictorians or honor students, but, hey, dribble a basketball and we hear all about it. Priorities. Yeah. I'd say we have them pretty screwed up.
As always, your readership and your comments help to make the world go round, so please continue to add them. I will try to do a better job of responding.
There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.

Dear Drew,
July seems to be the month that so much is hitting the fan. Yes, the all star game and the snubs are important. However the Olympic qualifiers have made for great TV. The in essense match races between Michael Phelps and that other guy (name escapes me at 2 a.m. sorry)Torres missing ber 6th Olympic’s by .09 seconds, Janet Evans retiring from swimming after a disappointing finish being just 3 of the stories. Of course there is the Colorado connection with swimmer Franklin (forgot her first name).
Have a safe journey to Texas. Glad you were renewed for 9News. That kind of news couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Have a happy 4th of July
All the best
Louis
P.S. Thanks to all who have served to be able to make us free enough to celebrate Independence day.
Good Morning from Omaha,
does anyone watch the all star game anymore? I know Kansas City is all a twitter over the game being at the “K” and run almost daily information about where to park, who will be there, and where to eat etc.
Its probably better than the NFL’s pro bowl, which is a mess.
the olympic swim trials in Omaha featured Missy franklin from denver and my wife and I were fortunate to meet her parents and the rest of her family as we strolled across the pedestrian bridge over the missouri river.
Michael Phelps and the other guys last name is Lochte had some great swimming competition and Omaha got its name spread all over the country. For the swim trials and the college world series.
Hope you guys have a fantastic 4th. Remember that our freedom came at a cost and be sure to thank the veterans who have sacrificed so much so that we can have a day off, go to parades and light off noisy fireworks until midnight. We really do owe them so much more than that.
Good luck in Plano, Drew. I hope your career thrives and your renown grows with each and every ‘toon you draw. Which I could help you with the move but as things are right now the lovely warden and I have no plans to go anywhere.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
Gene
I don’t like ANY of the All-Star games. The Pro Bowl is on the verge of extinction, The NHL ASG is just hockey without defense, The NBA ASG is a glorified And 1 Mixtape session, and even if I did follow baseball, Interleague play has hamstrung the AL/NL rivalry.
Even the Major League Soccer All-Star game is a lousy exhibition money-grab for a big Euro club. I will hand it to the NBA guys, though – at least they don’t try to duck out of their game, and they all look like they’re having fun.
