Today’s View From the Bull Pen
Priorities
We have them all wrong. From constant news coverage of Jodi Arias and OJ Simpson to athletes getting mega bucks for playing a game, our sense of what is important is completely and totally screwed up. You'd think that we might have learned something from the recent events in Boston. That heroes emerge from even the most difficult of circumstances, but, no, we return to the inane and inconsequential. Amanda Knox. Film at 11.I drew this cartoon after reading the recent story about Andrew Wiggins, supposedly the "next" LeBron James, signing a letter of intent with Kansas. While Wiggins did his best to keep his signing from becoming too much of a circus, it still carried huge weight in the 24/7 news cycle. It made me think of the number of brilliant kids who will walk across graduation stages all over our country in the next few weeks, whose names are only heard as they stride forward to get their diplomas. No newspaper columns are written or press conferences held for valedictorians or honor students, but, hey, dribble a basketball and we hear all about it. Priorities. Yeah. I'd say we have them pretty screwed up.
As always, your readership and your comments help to make the world go round, so please continue to add them. I will try to do a better job of responding.
There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.

Thank goodness February is a short month!
I’m happily cheering on my St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey team. They are currently at the top of the WCHA leader board. So, I’m a very happy hockey fan! We face our biggest rival, the University of Minnesota Gophers this weekend. The SCSU Huskies are two games ahead of the Gophers going into the two-game series. It is a great time to be a college hockey fan!
(By the way, the Minnesota Twins’ catchers and pitchers report to spring training next week. Baseball IS just around the corner!)
RE: the update to your blog. I like the neutral colors. The whole page is easier on the eyes, and it has a fresh, crisp look!

Good Morning from Omaha,
I would rather be in the twilight zone then where I was a year ago. the Kansas City Slayor have gone out and gotten some pitching- they have a good top three starters this year as opposed to the years gone by where their pitchers either wanted out of KC so bad they wouldn’t pitch or just flat could not pitch at the major league level.
We still have some snow on the ground here in Omaha and ice around every corner but it is getting better. We have been out and walking but I have been riding in the basement until the weather straightens out. There is just too much ice and snow just yet.
In the meantime I’ll get my sports updates on espn and out of the paper. Yes the newspaper. I guess I am old fashioned.
Oh well. I guess I’ll catch the replays of games on the NFL network. they only show good teams and that leaves the chiefs out of the equation. Better get out there and get after it. Health here I come.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
Gene
