No doubt about it. Josh McDaniels has certainly had an impact as the new head coach of the Broncos. Not quite the one we all had in mind. To take one of the NFL’s most stellar franchises and turn it to ashes in the first few months takes an exceptional talent. Honestly, I’m dismayed at the reaction to all of this. Sure, Cutler can share the blame, but ultimately, the complete implosion of this lies in the hands of a kid named Josh. A kid who hasn’t the foggiest idea what it takes to be a head coach in the NFL, and who has absolutely no credibility to run a team. Yet I hear the banter on the various sports talk shows around town whose hosts are steadfastly supporting McDaniels through this whole mess. My guess is that certain members of the media in Denver don’t want to rankle the new kid in town for fear that McDaniels might hold a grudge and be less apt to give them a story somewhere down the line. Objectivity has been completely thrown to the wind. McDaniels is simply a Belichick wanna be and it’s beyond my comprehension what Bowlen saw in him to give the kid the job in the first place.

Would you rather have a 25-year-old quarterback named Jay Cutler who just returned from the pro bowl, or Chris Simms? Really now? You can’t be serious. So here’s the elephant in the room and I believe is the basis for the Broncos wanting to trade Cutler in the first place. Could it be that the Broncos are concerned about Cutler’s diabetes diagnosis? The folks at Dove Valley will deny,deny and deny that Cutler’s health has anything to do with their decision making. But it does and I believe is a factor behind all of this. Worried top brass at the Broncos are concerned whether Cutler can remain healthy long term. So out he must go. For Chris Simms… Can you say 3-13? 2-14? 1-15. That’s your future with Chris Simms. And just trading Cutler for somebody else isn’t going to work now. The Broncos have lost any bargaining power. So don’t expect Detroit to give up that number 1 pick now.

I cannot believe what McD has reduced the Broncos to. At the end of the day though, Bowlen is to blame. His “I run the show” comment post-Shanahan was obviously all show. I also cannot believe some of the reactions and support for McD either.
The season is still a long way off but things do not look good at this point. I am a life-long Bronco fan and I just cannot get behind McD. I don’t know what it is about him….He just feels like the “enemy”. Lol.

I just figured it out… this is not so much about the Broncos as it is Belichik. Each year Belichick sends his believably competent minions out into head coaching positions. Each year they fail. This is simply Belichick’s latest method to win games… making sure his competition is poorly coached.
Drew, you raise an interesting point about Cutler and the diabetes, but I don’t think it is an issue.
Assume the Broncos want to dump him for the diabetes, then why are other teams considering Cutler? The risk is still the same, specifically Cutler’s diabetes will reduce his playing ability and render him a benchwarmer. There is no basis for any other team to want Cutler at the salary he and Bus Cook will demand at the risk of losing their “franchise” quarterback in a year or two.
Looking at the matter from Cutler’s perspective and based on the assumption his situation is as dire as you think the Broncos believe it to be, Cutler gains nothing by having a tizzy-fit. Under these circumstances he would know full well no other team will pick him up at his going rate. He would still have to pass any battery of medical tests first. Cutler would be wiser to remain silent, play as many years as are left on his contract and then simply retire.
Looking at the matter from the Broncos’ standpoint, if the matter is truly diabetes related, then Cutler has no significant trade value. Again, he would have to pass the battery of medical tests before any trade went through.
The Broncos would be wisest to simply wait out the Bus Cook generated drama and reap the remaining years he has remaining.
In sum, from a games theory approach, no one side will profit by forcing a trade if the underlying impetus for the trade is Cutler’s health.

Bowlen needs to man up and put these two morons in a room with him and get this pile of stuff get settled.
Some one needs to be the adult in this mess. Mickie D is not Shanahan, and doesn’t have the background to command the respect he thinks come with the job.
Cutler needs to realize that football at this level is a business, and not a sport, and that if he wants loyalty, he should get a dog.
Bowlen … its not a mistake hire Mickie D just yet, but it sounds like the coach needs some coaching. He will grow into the job. He could be like Lane Kiffin at Tennesee.
Whatever happens it makes for an interesting off season.
In KC they get absolutely no information from SlowPioli. I guess they signed a wornout bobby engrahm and brought back Monty Beisel, who at one time wasn’t good enough to play for Herm.

I am a huge fan. This cartoon is right on!!! Stanbob, I couldn’t agree more, that is hilarious. I agree Cutler has some growing up to do, but the kid has so much talent. More talent than McD’s guy Cassel. McD needs to quit pounding his chest long enough to look at tape on Cutler and realize how much potential he has there.

I agree – McDaniels is a disaster even before the first minicamp. And I do think the Broncos are concerned about Cutler’s health. But to trade a guy with diabetes for a guy without a spleen?
Broncos fans have been spoiled QB wise for the last 25 years – If McDaniels’ supporters were Bears fans, they would understand how rare it is to have someone like Cutler. He’s the QB, Josh – treat him the primadonna he is and win some games!
