Great to be back from my trip to the ESPN headquarters. It was a blast. I met some great people, rested in the shade of the largest satellite dish I’ve ever seen and just missed having Arnold Palmer’s with Arnold Palmer. So it was quite a trip.

Injuries have plagued the Broncos as well as many other NFL teams this preseason. I had fun drawing this take off on Jaws, one of my favorite summer movies.

    Good Morning from Omaha,
Good point drew, but are “injuries” in the pre season an attempt by coaches to keep the star players from aggravating already existing problems, that during the regular season the player would play through? Or are “injuries” during the pre season an excuse for coaches to see what the 2-3-and 4 level players can do to make the team.
Yes players get injured during the preseason. Its not like they are not in proper condition like in the days gone by where players had jobs during the off season and there were no OTA’s etc. The players push and push and push to the edges of endurance and the body can only take so much. this is done in the attempt by the 2-3 and 4 to make the team. And now the NFL is talking about an 18 game season with only 2 preseason games and not the current 4 preseason games and the 16 game season.
Greed is driving this wagon and will probably take the league right over the cliff.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene,

As always, terrific commentary. Greed is the undoing of all mankind.

Noticed that Tim sat out his first preseason game at Mile High with an injury; that must have disappointed the people who paid to see him play. Orton is looking stronger, though. There is always hope. But not for Elvis.

    Loved the “Jaws” reference.

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

    BEST. MOVIE. LINE. EVER.

    Dear Mr. Litton,

First of all welome back from your trip.

Only thing missing from your cartoon was the theme from “Jaws”

Thanks Guys. It feels so great to be missed. I loved Jaws. From the great role that Dreyfus played to the falling stars while out on the boat to the I’m tired and I wanna go home” song. Every bit of it was classic.

NFL is nothing more than human cockfighting.

Research has shown now that even high school and college players suffer from concussions that has life long brain damage. Most NFL players have severely crippled lives after retirement, unable to live like normal folks, and die in their 40′s and 50′s.

And it is our fault. We like to see “bone jarring hits”, because that is what “real men” do, and makes us feel “macho” The whole culture of appreciating “hits”, “power” and strength” by TV producers making shows on “hardest hits”, and the players concentrating on making paralyzing hits rather than sound tackles has turned football from a merely violent sport to a barbaric one.

I used to be a huge fan, but with a young son now, I have turned to other non-violent sports like tennis and soccer. No way am I letting my son go in to a sport where he can suffer permanent brain damage and be unable to function as a normal individual.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The World is in Chaos, The Economy is in the Dumpster...And Peyton Manning throws a Pass. Nice to know we have it all in perspective.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
