Golf is one of the most torturous games on the planet. I think the cartoons I enjoy drawing the most are the ones like this one. I think a lot of people can relate to this one and I love when something I draw connects on that level. I don’t play golf anymore. The insurance company wouldn’t cover the people I was playing with for catastrophic injury. I’ve been known to people with an errant shot or two. I can relate to the infamous words of Fuzzy Zoeller, who I heard tell a gallery at Castle Pines to move back a bit. “Trust me. The way I’m hitting the ball, you don’t want to be standing there”.

This cartoon is from the May issue of Mile High Sports Magazine. Grab a copy if you can. it looks much better in print.

No webcast for today. I need a week to work out the kinks and clean up my studio enough that it doesn’t resemble a scene from Sanford and Son.

Have a terrific and wonderful Mothers day weekend.

    Good Morning from Omaha,
I detest golf…. and that is not too strong of a word for my feelings for the game.
I have some great clubs, my son has donated some really good golf balls, for me to lose.
I won’t quit playing but I don’t play often enough to develop past an overgrown stage of
putt putt. for every good shot, there are 4 or 5 bad ones and minutes spent looking for where
    the shot went.
I think I am going to buy a wet suit for the next time I play so I can get into the pond to retrieve those
fancy golf balls that my son gave me. In the log run, the cost of the wet suit will be less than the cost
    of all those golf balls.
Have a great mothers day! gotta get a card or two. one for MRS gmfo and one for the woman that gave life to Gene all those years ago. Thank mom!
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
    Gene

A few good reasons why I don’t play golf. Plus I’m a lefty.

  3. Harry Thomas says:

This cartoon reminds me of the old joke:

    Q. Do you know why they call golf “golf?”
    A. Because all of the other four-letter swear words were already taken.

If you really want to hear a hilarious (if rather profane) take on golf, listen to Robin Williams’ clip on the origins of the sport from his 2002 Live on Broadway show. It was on HBO, but you can buy the DVD or get it from iTunes, I’m sure.

  4. Drew says:

    Harry,

That Robin Williams take on golf was one of the funniest bits of all time.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The World is in Chaos, The Economy is in the Dumpster...And Peyton Manning throws a Pass. Nice to know we have it all in perspective.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
