My kind of town…

Starting this Saturday, October 31, I will be debuting a new weekly feature in the sports pages of The Chicago Tribune. The cartoon called “The Main Event” will be all about the Chicago sports scene. I’m more than excited to launch this new feature in such a terrific and award winning newspaper as the Tribune. I have long maintained that a sports cartoon, done on a local level, has a great chance to really connect with readers. It’s what I prided myself on while at the Rocky Mountain News. I encourage you all to bookmark the Tribune’s site and I’ll give you a more definitive url when it launches Saturday. I’ll also post the cartoon here every week sometime during the weekend, but still encourage you to visit the Tribs site as well. After all, don’t you just miss Jay Cutler that much. My daily cartoons on here won’t change. You’ll just get an extra Chicago related toon thrown in. Cool, huh.

    GMFO,
this is so cool. I guess you will be watching a lot of WGN to keep up on the sports in Chicago. Or like me reading the chicago papers on the net.
Things always happen for a reason. we are just not smart enough to see it at the time.
I can hardly wait to be able to say I remember when Drew….
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene,

You are the absolute best. Thanks for making my day. Each and every one of them. I’m excited at the possibilities. Chicago is a fantastic sports town. And the best part is I can still be here in Denver doing my other cartoons and looking forward to the mornings post from you!

  6. Marcus says:

    Hey Drew,

I grew up in Colorado without a baseball team. And became… a Cubs fan. I then lived in Chicago for 10 years. Chicago sports is passionate and a suffers from sever multiple personality disorders. I knew fans who would be optimistic about the Cubs then yell at the Blackhawks for being so bad.

If you get the chance and haven’t done it yet. You need to sit in every part of Wrigley in your lifetime:

The Bleachers – Best in May when everyone starts to come out of their winter funk
3rd base line – See the point of view where Bartman was (incorrectly) blamed for ruining the Cubs WS chances
1st base line – I lived a block down the 1st base line down Addison
Behind Home Plate – Say hi to John Cusack
Upper Deck – Such a small stadium it still feels like you’re close

    Things to do:
Say Hi to Ronnie Woo Woo and the Dixieland Band that travels around the stadium all game
Drink an “Old Style” if you partake
Be sure to buy your peanuts outside the stadium
See the Harray Carray statue outside the Addison/Sheffield corner
Watch the Ball Hawkers assemble on Waveland and Grace
Go to Murphy’s (not the Cubbie Bear) after the game
Tip the 5-Gallon drum-drummers outside the stadium
Marvel at the manual scoreboard and the flags denoting the standings in the NL above it

It truly is a magical place.

    Marcus
