Because other outlets such as CNN broke live with it. In case you didn't catch the MSNBC Olympics Mid-day report, they pretty much did. 75 percent of the time was devoted to Tiger, and maybe 25 towards the actual games...

Well, the deal is that we are in "Sweeps," and NBC wants to play major events such as the Women's Downhill with Lindsey Vonn at primetime, as opposed to 1 p.m. whenever most people are at work. If anything, I guess they could hold such events at night but I'm not sure how much say NBC has over the scheduling.

Thanks to the DVR, we tape, then cut out all the commercials and "feel good reports"... Can never figure out why NBC insists on running a "Feel Good" story, versus showing something "Live"... Of course we could complain about Golf on TV, where they have to show number of commercials = number of shots. No one wants to see every shot,,, just the ones they think are important. If they only could do Football/Baseball the same way, the TV game time would be 35 minutes, 25 minutes for commercials the other two hours could be "Extra Hollywood" programming or another episode of CSI.

Sorry about the rant, I got excited

NBC's rationalization is that nobody is home when the events are taking place. Lindsey Vonn went down the mountain at 10 a.m. - where were you at that time? At work, of course.
I understand the rationalization. But like everyone else (especially in the West), we want the Olympics LIVE, regardless of where they are in the world.
