Clint Was Class

If you’re looking for the real reason Clint Hurdle lost his job, this cartoon, an old one from my days at the Rocky, pretty much spells it out. Sure , we can blame the Monfort’s (as I’ve been known to do more than a few times) but looking at the wrecking ball of this current economy, I think I’ll not point the finger today. Sure, The Monforts can’t compete with the likes of the Yankees or Red Sox but, really, who can? Until baseball puts in a salary cap to even the playing field, great guys like Clint Hurdle get pushed out the door. Here’s my wish. That Hurdle inks a deal with one of the teams with deep pockets. And then wins a World Series or two. Good luck Skipper. There was none finer.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

I remember when Clint Hurdle played for the Royals, back when they were winners and not whiners.

The money that either the Royals or the Rockies pay their entire team wouldn’t pay 3-4 players on the Yankees or the Red Sox etc etc.

The owner of the Royals is trying to run them like Walmart.

If not a salary cap, they should put in a salary floor, a guarantee that the teams will have at least a certain amount dedicated to the payroll or the good players won’t want to go to the teams like the rockies , royals or twins detroit etc. Right now the Royals payroll is about 70 million for the whole team. that isn’t going to get it done. And when Greinkes’ contract comes up for renewal he will be off to the the big money teams, leaving KC in his rear view mirror.

And some really good guys, Hurdle ,will get washed away in the wake of the disaster that is happening around the entire sports world.

It is almost like what happened with the RMN and guys like you. Great guys that had no real control over what was happening around them.

what do we do? We strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Drew I may be way out of line here but this is a free country and we all have a right to free to speak. So as far as salary caps go and baseball for that matter. Umm NO ONE CARES!!! They get paid, we get screwed! We get paid to work meaningless jobs, they have so called important jobs they keep losing (the Rockies) dont give a S@#T about us the fans just like the Nuggets again we get screwed! George Carl at least said Thank You to the fans. Did Melo? I dont know if Smooth did? Tbey all (Sports Players dont give a (big explative@#@#$@#@#$)about us just as long as they get paid. Bottom line. I am grumpy this morning, and TellBrandon Marsh.to go fight a MMA or any other Martial Arts fighter to teach him a lesson. He needs a A@S kickin, no woman needs to be abused regaurdless of any situation. My mothter has been abused by my father for years and he recently got what Brandon Marshall should get. Enough said. I apoligize for any comments but the truth is the truth. There is no reason,I repeat no reason for a Woman to be abused!!!

  3. Clint Hurdle is the real deal, he comes across as a guy who genuinely cares about his family, his community and his players… I will miss him and I hope he has success at whatever he chooses to do now…

  4. I hate to say it, but a salary cap is not the answer. The NHL has a salary cap and the last two years we’ve gotten Pens/Wings, meanwhile the NFL has teams permanently stuck in mediocrity such as the Lions and the Dolphins, with the Patriots a permanent dynasty. The MLB has had the most varied playoffs since 2000, with only the Redsox winning more than once and teams like the Rockies and Rays making the World Series. Plus, the Yankees were not picked beyond third in their division in several top polls of baseball experts. Oh, and they missed the playoffs last year. You can make a salary cap, but the Rockies will still have very poor management. It’s not if you have money, its if you use it properly.

  5. Personally I think there’s about 8-10 too many teams and talent is far too diluted. With so many teams, demand has sky-rocketed and so have salaries. Even the Yankee’s are not immune. They overpay for “above average” players. The farm system for most teams are a joke because players are brought up far too early.

The Marlin’s have shown it’s possible to compete only because their farm system seems to be stellar. However, their window is usually one season because their players are constantly stripped from them.

I miss the days when you could name to the top 5 players from every team without consulting the internet.
