@ Gene: Your recovery is such an inspirational metaphor for life. We need to take one bite, one drink, one step at a time, appreciating every moment and its significance in our lives. We need to find balance. Wishing you continued strength and endurance in your recovery!

@ Drew: Speaking of balance, your cartoon reminds me the importance it has in relationships and the choices we make. Communication and compromise are paramount in any relationship - whether it is between coach and player, husband and wife, parent and child, employer and worker, etc. On an individual level, we create brackets all of the time. Life is a series of "this or that," it seems. Decisions, decisions.

On a more personal level: I'm tickled to be included in your random notes, Drew, and more honored to be your friend. I, too, enjoyed our conversation, and look forward to coffee or lunch. This would mean, of course, that you can't relocate until we honor that raincheck. Just sayin'! ;)

GMFO-
dog vs wife??? almost 38 years invested in the wife...new dog...her allergies...wife wins. +her family would kill me.
Priorities change as you grow older. split level is fine. ranch home after this bout may be better. do we ditch Omaha and move someplace where we both want to be or just stay put. we both love omaha but there is a place around colorado we adore and it has nothing to do with with the kids being close.
got to walk outside with a cane today. didn't go far but was outside. working on my balance stuff and MAY get to go home soon. That is an intentional big MAY as in MAY be yes , MAY be no. only time will tell.
thank you for your support and continued prayers. until next time
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

Just catching up on your blog, Drew, after a few days away. ;)

@ Gene: Glad to read that you are progressing in your recovery. Hoping to read of more wonderful improvements, as I catch up on Drew's blog. Keep up the awesome work!!!

@ Drew: Great cartoon! The first person I thought of after reading your commentary, was Jason Elam and all of his missed field goals (reference your iconic goal post cartoon). We all make mistakes. We're human. Why we humans hold professional athletes (and others) on pedestals as god-like, perfect entities, I will never understand. We expect perfection out of our athletes and their teams. When they don't perform to our expectations, we are ready to trade them before the end of the season.

Life is way too short. Learn from mistakes, and make every attempt to do better next time. As Gene always says, "Strive for excellence. Nothing but your best." The key to falling down is getting back up again.

GMFO-
pitchers and catchers report soon. I am getting tired of all the talk comparing Lin to tebow. will lebron come back to cleveland, ad nausiuem. Sports has hit the dead time like every year at this time. but I got to walk outside again today. It was around 40 again today and yes it felt good.
another week or two and then home I go. out patient therapy for while.
still can not stand to watch baseball on tv but at least the drama is "real" and not a perception pf drama about carmello and lin getting along.
strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
