Daytona and the Gas Prices

Dispatches from the Drawing Board:

  • I’m reminded this time of year and in the midst of more snow here in Colorado how much I miss my jaunts to Arizona for spring training. Don’t care much for the political climate there, but, oh, catching some sun in the 1st base bleachers can’t be beat.
  • I think every one should be given one free week in Key West during the months of January, February or March. Did I mention I’m tired of the cold and snow?
  • I’ve had a few comments from people who think I should be drawing more NBA cartoons. I try but tend to, much like the players, sleep through the 2nd and 3rd quarters of it.
  • I find soccer more compelling than NBA basketball. Just saying.
  • Actually I find watching bowling more compelling than NBA basketball. Yeah. It’s that bad.
  • I AM, however looking forward to March Madness.
  • Don’t know how I feel about this years NASCAR season. The level of road rage in the sport is now starting to remind me a little too much of the traffic on I-25. Bumper to bumper and fist to fist.

  1. Hey Drew! Love the toon. I agree, a nice sun drenched day at a baseball game, and a few days in Key West would be amazing! Give me the purr of the NASCAR engines anyday over basketball! Ok, I give it to you, March Madness is a little more exciting than bowling or NBA.

  2. Dear Drew,

Seeing this cartoon gave me a very funny image in my mind that I want to share with you and the readers.

Imagine what NASCAR would be like if it was more like real life. For example, what if instead of a pit area for every car there was only 1. Only 1 place to pit and that pit crew was responsible for everybody? Imagine having to wait in line to get gas? Having to tell the head of the pit crew what you wanted? Imagine having to wait in line for the guy(s) ahead of you to get done. That would really make strategy interesting especially during yellow flags.

BTW I’m sorry I didn’t say this earlier. It is great that Gene from Omaha is doing better. I love reading his insights.

    All the best

  3. Glad you’re coming around on soccer…could a few EPL toons be in the offing?

As for NASCAR, I will watch the occasional race, but if some of the worst-case scenarios for fuel prices and supply come to pass, how would it affect the sport itself or the future of it? Of all sports, it’s the one most tied to hydrocarbon fuels.

  4. Funny toon, but I love your posts more. I agree with you on NBA, love the sleeping through quarters comment. Though, Drew, please stop with the bowling dissing. Bowling is fun to watch and there is tons of drama there. You just need to know more about the sport. Come to Westminster Bowl the first week in March for the JANBA tournament. That’ll gain some of your respect.

  5. GMFO-

great toon drew! I am missing the sunshine too much to sit inside and watch guys and danica drive fast and turn left, drive fast and turn left. I tend to think the “drama” in nascar is fabricated to get onto sports center, but I have been wrong before.

In case you guys missed it I got to do a home visit yesterday. it went great. funny thing was I thought our fridge was broken as everything felt room temperature. Turns out my right side can’t feel the difference in temps. so cold pop on my right side feels room temp, hot water on my right side feels room temp. My left side is perfectly correct with the temp.

Its a part of the stroke that will heal in time. the DR did not seem so concerned about it so I guess I should not be either. Just have to use my left hand to gauge temp of water, pop, tea hot chocolate etc. Other than that nothing really new, just making steady progress on my balance. thank you for your prayers and support.

STrive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  6. @ gene:

Glad you’re back, Gene. Keep getting better.

The NFL may have had their anxious moments last year, but at least they got their act together and started the season on time. The NBA All-Star Weekend is this weekend and nobody really seems to care. The Spurs are doing well (sorry, Nuggets fans), but the revised schedule is brutal.

However, I’d much rather watch the NBA than NASCAR. I’m sorry but three hours of left turns doesn’t thrill me. But given a wider choice, I’ll take “Spongebob Squarepants” over both (and I don’t like “Spongebob” either).
