How can this game not take a toll on their bodies? Hopefully the athletes of today think about their heroics and the possible consequences. And I hope that they are the ones making the decisions to play, not being totally coerced. I love to watch football; the speed, the grace, the competition, the skills, and the heroics. Mike webster, the center for all of those superbowl teams, died almost penniless and suffering from so many concussions that he barely knew who he was and johnny unitas who played before the money got big was a real mess also. and the nfl players association from what I remember doesn't put but a pittance in the retirement fund that supposed to help support them.after all the sacrifices they made for the game. its an issue that will hit the fan in 2010 when the cba gets re negotiated.
