Giants Win!

The World Series was over before I had much of a chance to draw about it. Clearly San Francisco got hot in the last few weeks and had just too much stuff for the Cardinals or the Tigers to overcome. Hard to believe but it concludes another season of baseball. It always reminds me of the great Bart Giamatti quote:“[Baseball] breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”

  1. An anticlimatic ending to the season indeed. Wish it had gone seven and every game was like the last one. Well, there’s next year. And the Broncos are looking good!

  2. Dear Drew,

Yeah, I’m sure the Cardinals and Tigers feel exactly the way you drew them after facing the Giants. Though to be truth when baseball doesn’t revolve around my Rockies I really don’t care that much (talk about being a homer huh?)

I really thought you’d be doing a cartoon on the Denver vs New Orleans massacre. As you know I like to sometimes imagine the cartoon you’d be drawing. For this game I imagined the Saint’s players playing with paper bags over their heads just like their fan’s use to when they were better known as the Ain’ts. That would have been appropriate for how badly they played though give credit to the Bronco’s for their inspired play as well.

Side note: I pray for the people along the east coast especially in New York where I have Aunt’s, Uncle’s, Cousin’s in the direct path of Sandy. I don’t think I’ll be sleeping too well until I know they’re all right.

    All the best

  3. Good Morning from Omaha,

as cubs fans always seem to say there is always next year. That sentiment has been replaced with cynicism as the internet is ablaze with information about the latest trade and the players involved. Fans get treated to everything known about the players involved and can make up there minds about the value of the trade even before the first ball is thrown during spring training.

That has taken that bright outlook that people used to have for the KC royals and even with the poor record over the last 25, gradually turned it into “wait til 2014″. Even the royals gm is pointing to 2014 as the royals year. 2013 already is written off, no point watching the games on tv or even going to the games because even the gm knows the team isn’t going to be very good.

Please dont allow this to happen to your Rockies. It would be a shame to see coors field half or less full and here people pointing 3 years down the road as ‘the” year. it is a franchise killer for sure.

I love the giamattii quote- wow the words used paint a beautiful and true picture of what baseball should be in every city that has a MLB franchise.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
