Doing the Time Warp again.

What part of “live” doesn’t NBC understand? The Internet has changed so much of the way we watch sports. Mostly it does away with the need for any kind of tape delay. Too bad NBC doesn’t get it. No wonder the whole Jay Leno fiasco happened.

Thanks for taking some time to take the poll yesterday. Feel free to let me know what’s confusing about the navigation and if you want me to dump a few sidebar widgets. I’ toying with making a few tweaks to the header, so don’t be surprised if you see a new one in the near future.

Saturday and Sunday Bonus cartoons for this weekend, so be sure to check back for updates

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

keep swinging that hammer, Drew. You hit this one square on.

There is a great column in the Post about a skier named Mancuso who has won more medals at the Olympics than the touted Vonn.

Sounds like a cat fight is developing on the mountain.

she is not the bikini model NBC is touting, but she is probably the better skier.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. NBC understands the meaning of the word “live”, I’m certain of that. They’re still using to con people who aren’t familiar that the events already happened into thinking that what they are broadcasting is “live”. They’re doing it to get more viewers for the big things, like Lindsey Vaugh and such.

  3. NBC’s rationalization is that nobody is home when the events are taking place. Lindsey Vonn went down the mountain at 10 a.m. – where were you at that time? At work, of course.

I understand the rationalization. But like everyone else (especially in the West), we want the Olympics LIVE, regardless of where they are in the world.

  4. Thanks to the DVR, we tape, then cut out all the commercials and “feel good reports”… Can never figure out why NBC insists on running a “Feel Good” story, versus showing something “Live”… Of course we could complain about Golf on TV, where they have to show number of commercials = number of shots. No one wants to see every shot,,, just the ones they think are important. If they only could do Football/Baseball the same way, the TV game time would be 35 minutes, 25 minutes for commercials the other two hours could be “Extra Hollywood” programming or another episode of CSI.

Sorry about the rant, I got excited

  5. Well, the deal is that we are in “Sweeps,” and NBC wants to play major events such as the Women’s Downhill with Lindsey Vonn at primetime, as opposed to 1 p.m. whenever most people are at work. If anything, I guess they could hold such events at night but I’m not sure how much say NBC has over the scheduling.

  6. Andrew if that is the case why didn’t the powers that be at NBC tape delay poor little tigger woods’s speech this morning?

  7. Because other outlets such as CNN broke live with it. In case you didn’t catch the MSNBC Olympics Mid-day report, they pretty much did. 75 percent of the time was devoted to Tiger, and maybe 25 towards the actual games…
