To celebrate the return of Patrick Roy, I thought I'd post my three favorite and most requested Roy cartoons from my days at the Rocky Mountain News. I'm excited he's back and I know you guys are too. So here's to St Patty. I'll raise a pint o' Guinness to that!

A Mess of a Broncos Draft
It Was Ugly
It was a bit like watching the last lap of yesterday’s NASCAR race. Thankfully no one got hurt, at least not yet. Watching an egotistical young coach in completely over his head is not a pretty picture, especially when he’s the one at the wheel of the franchise you bleed orange for. To say this draft was a mess is an understatement. Perhaps the worst defensive team in the NFL, Josh McDaniels and company did little to help their anemic situation. They spent the off-season signing free agent running backs and then drafted one with the number 12 in the first round. They spent next years first round pick to choose a guy in this years SECOND round. Finally, they traded up for a 6th round pick for a quarterback just because his name “sounded” like Tom Brady. Hard to believe McDaniels could blow anything worse than the Jay Cutler debacle, but I think he did.

TGIF It’s Caption Contest day.
OK Broncos fans. It’s time to take out those pencils, and be funny. We need captions. Lots and lots of them. And here’s the deal. This week the winner gets the original cartoon and a Fraternal of Order of Pigskin T-shirt. Then I’ll pick TWO runners up and they will get a free t-shirt a quick personalized sketch of John Elway. The Draft: Science 101
I’m an admitted draft geek. I don’t know why. I think it has to do with my days playing Madden Football in the franchise mode, spending hours trying to draft a good team. Somewhere along the way I figured out that it didn’t really matter. So I decided to watch the real thing. I once went with a friend to the ESPN Zone and spent 6 hours just following the first round. The friend left for Chicago later that year and I’m sure to this day, it was the 6 hours he spent with me following that first round that did him in.
