Dispatches From the Drawing Board

  • Peyton being unceremoniously dumped is a metaphor of all that is wrong with pro football.
  • I mean he didn’t even get a gold watch on his way out the door.
  • That said, he really should retire, while he still can. After all, your health is everything.
  • Unless, of course you happen to be a cartoonist. Here’s a story I’m pondering about my friend, Tony Auth
  • How many cartoonists does it take to make people laugh.
  • None. They all lost their jobs.

  1. Drew, you complain that teams dumping players is what is wrong with the NFL.

You also complain when players dumping teams (LeBron, Melo, etc.) is what is wrong with the NBA.

Are you saying that teams should keep players for as long as they want to play, and that players should stay with one team their whole careers?

Because that’s what it seems like. You can’t have it both ways.

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

Irsay is the son of the guy who moved the colts from Baltimore to Indy so it seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.Manning at aLMOST 36 with a bad neck is better than probably 25 of the 32 starting qb’s in the league.

Loyalty is a 2 way street and in pro sports that street has been abandoned by most. Irsay is just the latest person to close that road. The colts want to start over. Manning is not a part of that plan. He is one big hit away from living the rest of his life wearing a neck brace or in the worst possible case living a hoverround.

The need to win, and now is what is driving this madness. While I am a fan of manning and would like to see him play some more, I am reminded of the line from billy joel about while you can’t drive a car with a broken neck, at least you can polish a fender.

he has made more money than he can spend in his lifetime. Maybe Peyton can use his drive and desire to be a qb coach or like the head coach in san fran, harbaugh, be a head coach. to keep playing in his alleged condition is like walking a high wire without a net.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene
