Happy Opening Day!! Since I consider these couple of days of Baseball openers a National Holiday I decided to go all out for it. Grab some coffee, or a cold beverage and a hot dog and take in the sights and sounds of baseball. No other sport speaks to our sense of nostalgia more than Baseball. It’s in the confines of the Ball Park where a lifetime of memories are made and handing down from generation to generation. So kick back and celebrate with me.

  1. GREAT collection of videos. Definitely knocked it out of the park. It just would not be an opening day with out Abbott and Costello doing “Who’s on First”, priceless. The cartoons of Tex Avery, Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, just as priceless. One minor issue, a video of George Carlin comparing Baseball to Football. I suspect that you just did not have enough time.

  2. WM,

I’m not familiar with it. I’ll see if it is on youtube. Is it, you know, family friendly?

  3. Dear Drew,

I’ve been watching a lot of movies lately. Not just baseball and I got to wondering if the fans who write to this blog could make a movie about the Rockies this year what would the title be? Who would be the players in which roles? Now maybe its just me but I think we could have some wild results.

For myself I’d call this years upcoming Rockies Season “The Sting” The players/and their roles.

Todd Helton as Henry Gondorff. The wise veteran.

    Tulo as Hooker.

The rest of the NL West as Doyle Lonnigan

    Jim Tracy as Kid Twist

Ubaldo Jimenez as The Erie Kid.

Carlos Gonzales as Billie (couldn’t think of a women to player her so since he is my final “named” Rockie he is the one who gets the role. Sorry Cargo.

Well that is my movie for the Rockies. I hope others will give it a shot. If nothing else should provide some laughs before game #1

    All the best

    Louis

  4. Drew,

Your cartoons and videos, are classics – just like the game of baseball. I have yet to ever attend a baseball game of any kind. I know it is “as American as apple pie,” and all. I simply wasn’t raised to follow the game. Football, a little basketball, and golf were the sports I grew up with. I did have the opportunity, back in 1986, to play the role of Meg Boyd in the musical “Damn Yankees.” That is as close as I ever got to the game. Who knows, maybe I’ll learn to follow it this year. I definitely appreciate the history of the game, and how it brings folks together.

Keep hittin’ them out of the park, Drew!

  5. Ah, Drew, how wonderful! This day is almost as good as Christmas to begin with and then you give us all this! Thank you. Love the lunch bunch! And the Jack in the Box is priceless. A day to smile all around just made better.

Louis, if it weren’t month end it might be easier to be creative, but you have got me thinking.

  6. Carlin’s Baseball and Football! Classic!

Oh, and Breaking News: My Baltimore Orioles have just been eliminated from playoff contention.

  7. Good Morning from Omaha,

You blew it out this time. Lots of nice video’s and great cartoons. The Rockies have become my sons favorite team over the slayoR, who lost on opening day, again. Lots of positive talk about both teams. Its too early to be negative about the fortunes of the KC 9. I am hoping they can get through april at .500 and then see what happens after the cold weather changes in to spring. Sometimes you wonder if the slayoR would start the season better if the did spring training in the Arctic. They come out of AZ on fire and then hit the ice of KC in the spring and never seemingly recover until late May when its too late.

Have a great day out at the ballpark. Hopefully we will get out there sometime this summer.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  8. WOW! Grandslam Homer, Drew! So many great things on the website today! I absolutely love the Abbott and Costello, “Who’s on First”, it has been a long time since I’ve heard the whole routine–that was talent!

And yes, I’ve papered my walls with the opening day toons–Really love the TULO Lunch cartoon!

Just wondered if you had thought about a schedule score sheet like you did for the Broncos??? Know it is a lot of games, but it would be fun. Anyway, just a thought.

Have a great Opening Day! And GOOOOOOO ROCKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I’m so glad you all are having fun with this! It was a blast putting it together and finding all of the fun baseball stuff to add here. I’ll try to do it more often with events like this. It’s always one of the greatest days in sports!

  10. Drew–

What a cornucopia of baseball-ish goodies! I’m just gobsmacked by it all. WOW!!!

I’m wearing purple for the Rockies today, despite living outside of Philadelphia…
