Dispatches from the Drawing Board

  • Wow. This story just gets weirder by the hour.
  • To the Jets? With Rex Ryan? Tim will learn words he never knew existed.
  • It’s good for the New York economy. Now they have new merchandise to sell besides the stuff with John Lennon wearing the I Love NY t-shirt.
  • The Broncos land a 4th and a sixth for Tebow, who should have NEVER been picked in the 1st round to begin with.
  • Before you moan about how little the Broncos got for Tebow consider this. Brandon Marshall AND Elvis Dumervil were 4th round picks. and some guy named Tom Brady was a sixth round choice.
  • Actually the Broncos deal is fabulous considering Tebow’s value on the open market is not very high. And the fact that once you announce you are going to trade the guy his value immediately drops like a lemon on the lot.
  • I hope Tebow does well with the Jets. I mean it worked well for a kid named Namath.
  • Of course Namath could throw.
  • I just wish Broncos fans would just go back to being Broncos fans. One guy does not a franchise make. I’m totally astonished at the response from some fans who are all Tebow- all the time.
  • By the way the Continental Divide is the one now found in the Jets locker room after this trade. I predict it will be Rex Ryan’s last hurrah.
  • Trust me, it’s going to be ugly.
  • Agree, disagree? I want to hear from you!
  • Oh and a HUGE thank you to everyone hwo liked, shared, tweeted, commented or read yesterdays cartoons. The blog logged 11,250 page views. A new Drew record. Thanks! You guys and gals rock!

  1. … and now he might go to St. Louis?

Listen, I’m not a Tebow worshiper, and I understand that this is a business, and it shouldn’t be personal. But it became personal the second Elway gave the sound bite of the night when he said that Tebow was good enough to marry his daughter, but not good enough to play on his football team (and honestly, if I was his daughter, I’d be offended as well).

Tim Tebow is not a great quarterback. Heck, he’s average at best. But the kid has heart and he played above his potential. Elway and the Broncos could have turned this into a “teaching moment” and let Tebow move to 2nd, and have him learn how to be a good QB under one of the all time greats.

Wherever he lands, I hope he does well, he’s a nice kid and with the right teacher, could have had some serious potential.

John Elway just reaffirmed my belief that he’s a Grade-A Jerk.

  2. Drew–

I’ve heard from some of my friends in NYC, and the consensus is that they are NOT Tebow fans at all. I have to wonder if he is a good fit for the “too cool for you” New York fans and press. What is his chemistry with the team?

I also LMAO’ed when I saw this cartoon.

    Peg–

I wanted to tell you that if you aren’t getting paid for your words, you should be. It’s a pleasure to read your posts.

  3. Felicia,

Thank you for your kind words. I am not getting paid to write them. Here or anywhere else. I was asked to write a book once. However, the editor had deadlines and a focus that didn’t work for me.

I have followed Drew’s work for many, many years; and love his blog. It gives me a chance to “talk” about sports, and the other things that Drew shares with us on his website.

    Drew,

“Timmy and the Jets” – I love it! Why am I humming Elton John songs right now? 😉 Thus far, I haven’t read any good press about Tebow going to the Jets, other than the fact that Elway is glad to not have to “deal” with all things “Tebow” anymore. I read that Joe Namath doesn’t like the fact that Tebow is going to the Jets. Apparently, there are current players, now Tim’s teammates, who feel the same way.

Why is there so much disdain for Tim Tebow? So much criticism. It is sad. 🙁 It will be interesting…the Tim Tebow-Rex Ryan relationship. Rex’s language isn’t exactly clean, by any means; and a stark contrast to Tim’s natural optimist, Christian character.

I can only hope that Tim is given a fair and equal chance to fully participate, and earn his place with the Jets. Who knows? He just might surprise everyone, if given the chance.

  4. I can say that today is the first time I have been sad to be a Bronco fan. They traded away a player who would have worked his but off for the team and for the fans for a guy who just wants another ring and to leave. And when he leaves we get to see them jump on the marry go round of QBs again. I truly hope Tim Tebow proves John Elway wrong and wins multiple Super Bowls. It just makes me even sadder to think he may do it with Rex Ryan.

  5. There are some very angry fans in Jacksonville, who want to know why the owner and GM didn’t go after Tebow to begin with.

  6. I think Tebow moving further away from Focus on the Family will do wonders for his ability to concentrate on what he is being paid to do, play football.

  7. Great toon Drew!

Excited to see what the team will look like next season. I was dreading another year with Tebow. What would have happened if the team finished with 6-8 wins? Too low to get Barkley. Not enough losses for the die hard fans to give up on Tebow. It would have been a mess.

He seems like a nice kid but circus that follows him is too much for me. I do not need a role model for my kids, I just wanna watch and enjoy games again.

  8. Well said AtomicLeo. Love the role model comment. Makes for a lot to watch this coming season. I know I will be more interested in the Jets games. Do we think that Tebow has never heard swearing in the locker room? If teammates and coaches magically don’t swear around him, neither will Rex. I for one cant wait to see what Manning brings, what we get in the draft.
