A Holiday special Broncos toon from Mile High Sports

Be sure to scroll down for the punchline!

I thought this would be a fun cartoon to leave you with for the weekend. It’s featured in the September issue of Mile High Sports magazine which is available now throughout the Denver Metro area. Be sure to pick up a copy. This one might go over well taped on the fridge! Since so many of us take off Friday and Monday over the labor day holiday (not me personally but some of you lucky ducks do) I thought this might tide us through until next Tuesday when I return to drawing live. I’ll have an ESPN cartoon up this weekend as well over on ESPN.com so check back for that one. And I might have something for the CU-CSU game but I’m not sure yet. One good way to know if I post something new is to subscribe to my RSS feed. Have a great Labor Day weekend and be safe!

Broncos: Minefield ahead

So far the Broncos have navigated the mounting injury issues of the preseason fairly well. Yet they seem but one step away from impending disaster. Knowshon Moreno is only a reported 80% healthy and the bigger issue remains how long Ryan Clady will sit and if the loss of Elvis Dumervil will finally catch up with the Broncos. Overall it’s made for a pretty nerve wrecking training camp.

Floyd Little: One of The Broncos Best Part II

The speech that Floyd Little delivered over the weekend upon his entrance in to the NFL Hall of Fame was nothing less than amazing. It made me wonder why he hadn’t become a football coach. Imagine HIS leadership at Dove Valley these days. Anyway, I think the speech in and of itself deserved a cartoon. So here you are. Floyd Little Part II.

Broncos Fans Lament

Now I guess all Broncos fans know exactly how it feels to be a Cubs fan. Dumervil. Gone. Moreno. Out. Buckhalter. Hurt. The list goes on and on. Three guys placed on IR for the season on Thursday
alone. What a shame. This season is already over before it begins. Or so it seems. Feel free to grab a box of tissues and comment on a season in shambles.

NFL Training Camps Open

NFL camps have open all over the league this weekend. It always makes for good cartoon fodder and I’ll be doing a fair share of Training Camp cartoons in the days and weeks to come. This one was in this weekend’s Chicago Tribune. It looks like Jay Cutler has finally met his match.

The Broncos got off to a rough start on Sunday with Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter both going down with injuries. I sometimes wonder if the new NFL pushes these guys a bit beyond what their bodies can take. Years ago the season ended in January and we didn’t hear from the players again until July for training camp. Sure, some guys came in out of shape but that, after all, was why they held training camp to begin with. Now players finish in February, start daily workouts immediately and show up for umpteen mini-camps during the off-season. Is it all really necessary? And to what end? Dez Bryant in Dalls is out for 6 weeks. Moreno for 3 to 4. And this is before they even play a meaningless preseason game. What do you think? Do you agree or have another thought. Feel free to share.

And So It Goes

Plop goes the Rockies. Just like that they find themselves down and out. What a difference a road trip makes. What exactly happens during the all-Star break I’ve no idea but needless to say this team just isn’t the same one before the break. Can they climb their way back? You tell me!

Distant Replay: Killer Uprights

Easily my most requested and remembered cartoon, I owe my entire career, I think, to this cartoon. It followed then Broncos kicker Rich Karlis kicking the ball into the uprights in the waning seconds of key Broncos games two Sundays in a row. Both Field goals were no good.
The cute bank teller that I had a crush on at the time wouldn’t talk to me the day it published but everyone else seemed to love it. Even Karlis himself who once told me “you captured exactly what was on my mind”.

I’ve got a busy few days of freelance assignments so this is a golden oldie for you. I’ll publish another tomorrow so if you have a request please leave your comments.

Yet Another Way to end up in the Dog House

I sincerely hope you didn’t make a horrible mistake like this. You could end up in the dog House for months. This cartoon was inspired by my mother-in-law Shirley who got her Tebow jersey as a Birthday gift (cinco de Shirley) from one of her good friends. My wife and I would have never thought about it. Shirley, a die hard Broncos fan loves, loves, LOVES her new Tebow jersey. Got Yours?

NEW ESPN TOON
Should have a new ESPN cartoon posted by 7 or 8 Denver time. See it Right Here.

Broncos Draft: Holy Tebow! And a new ESPN toon

Now that’s a Draft.
I go away for a few days and the whole world turns upside down. I was stunned at the first round developments and I’m still in total shock that McDaniels really took Tim Tebow. I had just assumed all the talk about him was a smokescreen so they could pick who they really wanted.
Crazy. That’s what I say. How about you? Got an opinon. I want to hear it. This is HUGE Broncos news.

ESPN Live DRAFT Cartoon
: It’s now online at ESPN.com. ya gotta see this one too. I did two last night for the draft. One for DrewLitton.com and this one for ESPN.
