Taking A Few Days Off

I’m taking a few days off. I’m going to Bristol, Connecticut to visit the folks at ESPN (aka the Mother Ship) on Wednesday and have a lot to do before I leave. There’s a chance I might take the whole week away from the blog here at DrewLitton.com but I’ll put some cartoons up to run while I’m gone if I decide to do that, so be sure to check back like Wednesday. I consider you all friends and I just can’t tell you how much your support means to me. Thanks too for the encouraging words on the incredible Broncos schedule app designed by Russell Houlden. Russell has done a terrific job and deserves a ton of accolades for his work!

The Official 2010-11 Denver Broncos Cartoon schedule

Just click on this Image or the one in the sidebar to get the App

It’s Here! Today we’re launching the coolest new app here on our site, a Drew Litton Broncos schedule complete with plenty of Broncos cartoons and that automatically updates the scores throughout the season. And, get this, it goes backwards and gives you Broncos scores all the way back to 1960! Our app man Russell Houlden has outdone himself on this one. It will also automatically update the latest Broncos cartoons on the right (where the exploding car is now), so you can see my latest work. If you like this let me know. We’re planning more things like this (Buffs, Rams skeds) but we need to know how you like this one. Russell is working away on getting an app into the Android storefront as well. By the way if you or your company or business place is interested in having an app done for the iPhone, iPad or Android, Russell Houlden is THE guy!

Oh, and I’ve added the option to print each day’s cartoon. Just hit the Print Friendly icon below. You can REALLY help us out by emailing, tweeting, and sharing today’s cartoon on face book (hit the Tell a Friend icon), as well as printing out the schedule and hanging it around your office or on the refrigerator. Print a few copies and hand them out to your friends. Just tell them where you got it from . Thanks everyone! Have one super terrific Weekend!

Now There’s an App For That!

Our first DrewLitton.com app has arrived. The Daily Drew App is a calendar featuring the cartoon of the day that you can download onto to your desktop at work or at home. Here’s the link to get it or you can get there by clicking on this widget!

It was designed by Russell Houlden, a talented Software Developer and President of Houlden.net in Nebraska. Originally from Denver, I met Russell years back at a few parties that my sports editor, Barry Forbis, had. He was Barry’s neighbor. Anyway, Russell looked me up on facebook and pitched me a few ideas for various ways my cartoons can be used on the web and on cell phones. Russell is in his lab now putting together our first Android app and some other cool stuff that we know you’ll like. We likely won’t be tinkering with an iPhone app any day soon. Apple doesn’t like to work with cartoonists who draw real people. The last guy who won the Pulitzer Prize in Editorial Cartooning had his app originally rejected by Apple. Only after he won the Pulitzer did Apple relent to let him add his app to the mix. Yet Apple doesn’t seem to have a problem with the porn industry, or so I’m told. I have an Android phone and love it!

So please welcome Russell aboard. He’ll be around kicking the tires on the site and cooking up some awesome stuff for us. If you have any questions about the app just leave them in the comments section under today’s cartoon. I know the app might not load on some computers that are older. My 2004 version of Macbook, for instance, didn’t play well with it. But most computers will happily oblige.

Here’s a quick note from Russell that he posted on my facebook profile today:
“You shouldn’t have to wait long for the Android App. In the meantime, I hope that you enjoy Drew’s calender on your desktop. I really like having a new cartoon on my desktop when I start my computer in the morning! As time goes on, it’s also building nice archive of Drew’s cartoons. So you can pick past dates and his cartoons will be delivered to you. I do hope you enjoy it.” -Russell Houlden-

I’ll be at the San Diego Comic-Con later this week so my posting schedule might change a bit. I’ll let you know if I’m not drawing the day before. Oh and sign up to join the Drew Crew and get the Summer edition of our Newsletter.

Broncos Trade for Brady Quinn & Drew Joins ESPN today!

Sometimes Monday just comes too quick. and other times, well, it takes 26 years. It’s long been a dream of mine to be a part of the ESPN.com team, just like it was to draw for the Chicago Tribune. What do ya know. Dreams do come true. Today I start drawing for ESPN.com once a week (6 times a month actually). Check out the Drew debut here (after 9:00 a.m. EST). Leave a comment or even better send them an e-mail. It will help so much. If you’re in Chicago check me out every Saturday in the Tribune. And, as always, 5 days a week (and sometimes more), right here at DrewLitton.com.

quinntrade

Wow! What a Sunday. Broncos and Brackets. Well, as you know by now The Broncos trade Peyton Hillis and a 2011 (6th round) and a 2012 (TBD). I personally like the deal ( you might not know it from the cartoon). I think Quinn has quite an upside. And for Peyton Hillis who wasn’t going to play anyway, it’s a low risk low cost deal.
But ya gotta tell me what you think? Place your vote in the poll below.

Starting Monday at ESPN.com (and always at Drew Litton.com)

Starting Monday I’ll be doing a weekly cartoon for ESPN.com’s Commentary page! I’m excited about the new opportunity to be a part of the team at ESPN. I’ll still be doing my cartoons here 5 days a week, but you’ll find the new ESPN cartoon only on their website. It’s going to be a blast. (more below)

marchmadnessmadness

I’ll still be doing cartoons for the Chicago Tribune every Saturday, for 9News every Monday and Friday night, for The Guadalupe County Communicator in New Mexico every Thursday, Monthly in Mile High sports magazine and North Metro News every week as well. And, of course I’ll be continuing my sports cartoons twice a week for United Features Syndicate. I also have a few more things that are in the works. That’s what life is like as a freelancer who doesn’t have the luxury of a job at a Big Newspaper. Gotta do a lot to make ends meet.

I’ll need your help!
I’m asking all of you to help me spread the word about this and to wander over to ESPN next week and leave a comment or send an e-mail to them. The more of those they get the better. This all is a very important step to help me to continue doing what I do here. So tweet it, facebook it, digg it, tell the guys at the office, get one of those banners on an airplane and fly over Coors field on Opening Day…Well, you get the idea.
I promise all of you I will bust my tail to give you the best sports cartoons I can every day. Because without you, I wouldn’t be blessed enough to do this every day.

Thanks,
Drew

NCAA Tourney: Everybody in the Pool

cookies-vs-pools

The New Get Rich Quick Idea
I’m actually starting to think this could be the answer to the entire planets financial woes. A Pool on every corner. There’s always room for the entrepreneurial spirit in all of us. Much cheaper than a Starbucks franchise as well.

This year I won’t be taking part in a pool unless my wife and The Schnauzer are up for it. that’s the way it is when you work out of a home office. I was never any good in Office pools anyway. I think one year I was the only one who picked every 16th seed out of the hat.

Hey. I listen! A few of you said that you couldn’t read the comments that you left because of the dark grey background so, wah-lah, presto change-o. A few more of you thought the lettering neede more orange to match the menu bar. Fixed. I love your comments and I’ trying to do a better job of jumping in the midst of the conversation, so keep ‘em coming.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ON FRIDAY MORNING So please be sure to check back in for more toons and news.

The One that got Away

timtebowad

Oops!
In the crazy transition over the weekend to build the new look on the site this cartoon featured in the Chicago Tribune got deleted. Now It’s back. It got quite a bit of traffic over the weekend. The actual ad, not so much.

Floyd Little: Time for some Fame

Floyd Little cartoon

Time for some Floyd Fame.
He was, after all, the foundation of the entire Broncos franchise. Isn’t putting Floyd in the hall of fame long over due. You can click on the Floyd Little cartoon and it will take you to the Floyd Little Hall of Fame page where you can join the cause. Todays cartoon sums up my feelings about the whole thing. Enjoy the Super Bowl and check out the blog on Monday for the cartoon. My prediction? Saints 34, Colts 31. OT.

The Super Bowl Shuffle

superbowldownhill

Super Bowl Week
Here’s another cartoon that kind of sums up the way I feel about the Super Bowl. It’s bittersweet. Just knowing that when the game is over, so is the season. I’ve always tried to convince my wife to let me keep the Christmas lights and tree up until after the Super Bowl. Tis the season ya know. But then I would have two things end at the same time so it’s probably better to go ahead and put one away before the other.

The metaphor of the roller coaster is one of the most used in all of cartooning ( next to the guy on the desert island.) I’d never done one though with the thing just ending in mid air. I kind of like that. It’s certainly the way I feel after the game is over. Be sure to check back on Thursday for our Super Bowl poll and another cartoon.

New Kid, Same Old Story

Flashback
Sorry but I just couldn’t resist re-working this old Shanahan cartoon. It says just as much now, with McDaniels as it did then with the Mastermind. You can’t run the team by yourself. When will they learn?
