Dispatches from the Drawing Board
- Wow. This story just gets weirder by the hour.
- To the Jets? With Rex Ryan? Tim will learn words he never knew existed.
- It’s good for the New York economy. Now they have new merchandise to sell besides the stuff with John Lennon wearing the I Love NY t-shirt.
- The Broncos land a 4th and a sixth for Tebow, who should have NEVER been picked in the 1st round to begin with.
- Before you moan about how little the Broncos got for Tebow consider this. Brandon Marshall AND Elvis Dumervil were 4th round picks. and some guy named Tom Brady was a sixth round choice.
- Actually the Broncos deal is fabulous considering Tebow’s value on the open market is not very high. And the fact that once you announce you are going to trade the guy his value immediately drops like a lemon on the lot.
- I hope Tebow does well with the Jets. I mean it worked well for a kid named Namath.
- Of course Namath could throw.
- I just wish Broncos fans would just go back to being Broncos fans. One guy does not a franchise make. I’m totally astonished at the response from some fans who are all Tebow- all the time.
- By the way the Continental Divide is the one now found in the Jets locker room after this trade. I predict it will be Rex Ryan’s last hurrah.
- Trust me, it’s going to be ugly.
- Agree, disagree? I want to hear from you!
- Oh and a HUGE thank you to everyone hwo liked, shared, tweeted, commented or read yesterdays cartoons. The blog logged 11,250 page views. A new Drew record. Thanks! You guys and gals rock!

Dispatches From the Drawing Board:
- Nothing quite like signing a Hall of Fame quarterback to get the week started.
- Good stuff for a cartoonist.
- It should be great stuff for Broncos fans, but I get the feeling a lot of people don’t like adding Peyton Manning to the Broncos roster. Or more they don’t like the idea that Tim Tebow is about to be subtracted from it.
- The difference in the two quarterbacks is pretty complex. One can throw, read defenses and run a complex NFL offense from the line of scrimmage. The other one can’t.
- I like Tebow immensely. I like everything about him. But Peyton Manning he’s not.
- Manning gets you closer to the Lombardi trophy. Tebow gets you closer to the Heisman trophy. That’s the difference.
- I know I did a cartoon recently about Manning quitting while he’s still ahead. Here’s the link for it. That said, I’m not a doctor, so I kind of take it all back.
- Though I wouldn’t mind a doctors salary. Speaking of salaries, Peyton reportedly will sign for $95 million over 5 years. That isn’t too bad. Certainly not numbers cartoonists are used to seeing.
- Unless you were Charles Schulz, who made roughly $60 million a year in his prime.
- Yeah, you read that right.
- I can’t remember ever drawing three different cartoons on the same subject in the same day. Can I take the rest of the week off?
- Naw. THIS is too much fun.
- So what do ya do with Tebow? Trade him? To who, for what? Not a big market for running quarterbacks in the NFL.
- I wonder if Josh McDaniels wants him? I know. Bad joke.
- I say they give Tim his very own Tebow jersey concession kiosk in the South Stands. I mean someone needs to help subsidize Peyton’s $95 million contract.
- Got any better ideas. Well, let’s hear ‘em!

These Buff Tourney T-shirts (designed by ours truly) are hot off the presses and available at the CU bookstore, The Blake Street Watch Party and in Albuquerque at the Pit (for those of you lucky Buffs with tickets). I think they are going for about 10 bucks.
And prints of my “Snub This” Cartoon are now available for purchase by clicking on the Boulder Daily Camera link.
Dispatches from the Drawing Board
- I think the Buffs can beat UNLV and advance to the next round. CSU vs. Marshall…I don’t feel so good about.
- For the record CU contacted me about doing the T-shirts. I never heard from CSU but would have gladly done the same. Honestly, I think my Sunday morning cartoon in the Boulder Daily Camera (Snub This!) caught the attention of The Buffs Sports Information Director, Dave Plati and CU AD, Mike Bohn, and I had a very kind word put into the Assistant AD, Cory Hilliard, there as well by my friend, Peg DeLeo. Plati called me right after the Buffs got the bid. I had the t-shirt art to them by noon on Monday.
- A big thanks To Charles F. Luce, another friend of mine who badgered the folks at CU to make the T-shirt available to a larger number of folks.
- I tried to sell the Ft Collins paper on the idea of doing a weekly cartoon for the football season just like I did at the Daily Camera in Boulder. I never got a reply from the paper in Ft. Collins. Not even an e-mail to say “Thanks” but “No Thanks”. Such is the nature of the business.
- Believe me I’d be happy to draw for them as well.
- Working on a freelance basis for the Boulder Daily Camera is a blast. I worked with Jen Osieczanek at the Rocky Mountain News back in the day before she went on to bigger and better things as the sports editor of the Camera.
- The Broncos will miss free agency if this Peyton Manning thing drags on much longer.
- Personally, I think Josh McDaniels has something to do with it.

Dispatches from the Drawing Board
- This cartoon was drawn for the Boulder Daily Camera and the BuffZone.com.
- Check out the BuffZone’s fantastic fantastic coverage of the Buffs big victory
- I love the emergence of the CU Basketball program. Long considered a doormat of the Big 12, it’s fantastic to see what Tad Boyle is doing with the program. It’s been a long time since CU hoops have been to the dance. Now’s their chance to prove themselves on a bigger stage!
- Quite a weekend of sports around Colorado this weekend. From Tebow, to Manning to CU’s revenge tour it’s been a fun one.
- That said it’s been a busy one for me. Friday alone was crazy. In the morning I drew roughs for the Chicago Tribune. In the afternoon I ventured across town to Monroe Elementary school to teach some of the greatest kids in the world the art of cartooning for ArtReach. It’s such a joy to see the happiness in the smile of a child. I took my Cintiq tablet with me to show the kids how I draw digitally these days and, since the class ends at 4:30, and if I got tied up in traffic, I could pull into a Starbucks and meet my two remaining deadlines for The Tribune and 9News. So I ended up cranking out my two cartoons in the Starbucks at Aspen Grove, and, thanks to a very kind crew at Starbucks, I was able to hang out after they closed the doors at 9:00 so I could finish. After that it was on to Chammps to grab a bite to eat and catch the first half of the Buffs PAC 12 Semi-final game. Sleep came late, as it always does.
- I’m tired just typing it.
- So I’ll likely take a day or two off mid-week to start the process of getting the house ready to sell and a quick trip up to Boulder with my cartoonist pal, Rich Moyer, for Buffalo wings and a stop at Time Warp Comics. I need my comic shop fix.
