Dispatches from the Drawing Board:

  • Admittedly, this might not be too popular with the Tebow fans in the world. But if the Broncos sign Peyton Manning ( and that’s a very BIG IF) I’m afraid this is all we will see of Tim Tebow for awhile.
  • I’m amazed at the response this has gotten on facebook already. So many Broncos fans have become such rabid Tebow fans that even the slightest bit of criticism thrown his way is viewed as heresy.
  • I like Tebow as much as the next guy, but if (another BIG IF) Manning is healthy and can play, I’m sorry, but I’m going to go for Manning. He’s just one of the all-time greats. And I haven’t been a big fan of his. But the guy can flat out play.
  • He makes you automatically a playoff/future Super Bowl contender
  • That said, none of this is likely to happen
  • He played indoors
  • He wants it very toasty warm.
  • I’ll be drawing The Buffs for the Boulder daily Camera’s Sunday morning edition. Go Buffs. I’d love to see them go dancin’!

Dispatches From the Drawing Board

  • Peyton being unceremoniously dumped is a metaphor of all that is wrong with pro football.
  • I mean he didn’t even get a gold watch on his way out the door.
  • That said, he really should retire, while he still can. After all, your health is everything.
  • Unless, of course you happen to be a cartoonist. Here’s a story I’m pondering about my friend, Tony Auth
  • How many cartoonists does it take to make people laugh.
  • None. They all lost their jobs.

Dispatches from the Drawing Board

  • Listening to the new Bruce Springsteen album “Wrecking Ball” which came out yesterday. Usually I work in silence. You can’t brainstorm for ideas with noise. At least I can’t. And these days I draw in silence as well. But I really can’t get enough of this record. I’ll have to muster the will power to turn it off but it’s such an amazing record, well, it could be a loud afternoon.
  • And I’m not what you would consider a huge Bruce fan. It’s just that good. Maybe I can relate to the subject matter of it: the scratching and clawing to make a living these days.
  • And the Celtic influence of the tunes.
  • My Average Guy’s Guide to the Health club is a bit more “risque” than my usual sports stuff. But it fits the readership of the magazine as well as a realistic overview of the average guys point of view (so to speak) of the health club. Not that I would admit to any of that. Anyway, it made me laugh while I was drawing it, which doesn’t happen very often.
  • Not that I don’t have a sense of humor.
  • It’s just when you draw silly cartoons all day you get a bit desensitized to your own sense of humor.
  • Finding myself somewhat distracted these days. A lot on my plate personally. Getting the house staged is going to be a monumental task in and of itself. I’ll keep ya posted.

As the BountyGate scandal story continues to dominate the nation’s sports I thought his would be a great chance to show you different takes on the same topic. The cartoon below was drawn for Universal Press syndicate and went out nationally a little while ago.

This black and white cartoon was an “outtake” from a batch I sent the Chicago Tribune on Friday afternoon. I liked the premise and in hindsight it might have been a better image than the one I posted earlier this morning and that was published in Saturday’s Tribune. I kept it in it’s pre-color form since it didn’t publish.

And if we ever had any doubts about whether life is fair or not, just ask the three guys in the goat pen. Williams, Welker and Cundiff. Three guys who have gotten a bad wrap for their “mistakes” in post season play. Everybody is human. Time to forgive and forget. Things happen. That’s just the way it works.

Today’s View From the Bull Pen

The World is in Chaos, The Economy is in the Dumpster...And Peyton Manning throws a Pass. Nice to know we have it all in perspective.

There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen (that I've found yet) so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.
