NFL Training Camps Open

NFL camps have open all over the league this weekend. It always makes for good cartoon fodder and I’ll be doing a fair share of Training Camp cartoons in the days and weeks to come. This one was in this weekend’s Chicago Tribune. It looks like Jay Cutler has finally met his match.

The Broncos got off to a rough start on Sunday with Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter both going down with injuries. I sometimes wonder if the new NFL pushes these guys a bit beyond what their bodies can take. Years ago the season ended in January and we didn’t hear from the players again until July for training camp. Sure, some guys came in out of shape but that, after all, was why they held training camp to begin with. Now players finish in February, start daily workouts immediately and show up for umpteen mini-camps during the off-season. Is it all really necessary? And to what end? Dez Bryant in Dalls is out for 6 weeks. Moreno for 3 to 4. And this is before they even play a meaningless preseason game. What do you think? Do you agree or have another thought. Feel free to share.

Cutler’s Quandry

I did this for the Chicago Tribune on Saturday. Cutler apparently is “excited” about the new Mike Martz offense that the Bears will run this season. The truth is he won’t be too thrilled about it if he throws 26 interceptions like he did last year. 26 more reasons to be glad he’s gone and the Broncos drafted Tim Tebow.

Drew in Review: 2009

PLEASE NOTE: THESE IMAGES ARE NOT CLICKABLE
Drew in review 2009

2009: Unforgettable
For me, 2009 will always be remembered as the year a great newspaper died. The Rocky Mountain News had been a part of the Colorado landscape for 150 years until it’s closing in February. It set my life and career onto a new path, drawing cartoons for this blog and for places like 9News, the Chicago Tribune, United Media syndicate and The great Guadalupe County Communicator in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. I hope you enjoy this year in review piece I put together. It will be featured in the January issue of Mile High Sports Magazine on news stands next week.

I’ll have a new cartoon on Saturday.

The Trouble with Jay Cutler

Picks.
Lots of them. Jay Cutler has thrown 17 interceptions half way through the season, 5 against the 49ers on Thursday night alone. Now do yyou really want him back in Denver?
This the cartoon from today’s Chicago Tribune. I’ll give you a link to where they are now on they are their website as soon as I can. It’s on their sports section under the Smack header and in the archives once you’re there. Here’s the url for a Cubs cartoon I did a few weeks back. Please do me a favor and follow these urls. And feel free to leave a comment or two under the cartoon. The more page views there the better. And that goes for comments as well.

Some Cool Drew’s News from the Chicago Tribune

My kind of town…

Starting this Saturday, October 31, I will be debuting a new weekly feature in the sports pages of The Chicago Tribune. The cartoon called “The Main Event” will be all about the Chicago sports scene. I’m more than excited to launch this new feature in such a terrific and award winning newspaper as the Tribune. I have long maintained that a sports cartoon, done on a local level, has a great chance to really connect with readers. It’s what I prided myself on while at the Rocky Mountain News. I encourage you all to bookmark the Tribune’s site and I’ll give you a more definitive url when it launches Saturday. I’ll also post the cartoon here every week sometime during the weekend, but still encourage you to visit the Tribs site as well. After all, don’t you just miss Jay Cutler that much. My daily cartoons on here won’t change. You’ll just get an extra Chicago related toon thrown in. Cool, huh.

A Drew Litton Calendar is Coming!

A Drew Litton Calendar is Coming
We’ve begun production on the first ever Drew Litton wall calendars. My wife, Marcia, is helping input the events and I’m working on choosing the images. We’re doing a super cool calendar with dates for all of the major sports events of 2010 plus cartoons for every month. We weren’t able to get the daily desk calendars done. I just don’t have the financial resources right now to make that happen. This calendar is really an experiment. If it goes well then we will start to do a lot more merchandise in 2010 including a new book. So you can help me out by telling all your friends about the Drew Litton calendar (not to mention this blog). The more people who know about it the better. I’m also exploring doing a few Christmas Craft shows but I’m not sure about that yet. If any one has any ideas about that, I’m all ears. If there is any other merchandise you would like to see made available for this Holiday season feel free to let me know. You might remember a poll we ran back in September. It was a big help.

Broncos Bruise Browns

Shannon’s Lasting Impression

Talk about your great moments in Broncos History. I don’t think any of us will ever forget Shannon Sharpe’s great leap of faith into the Ring of Fame with a parachute. It was Shannon at his best, always over the top always memorable. It set the stage for the whole day really, and this Broncos team is really starting to show some signs of coming together. My favorite part of the day….Brandon Marshall being benched in the 2nd quarter because, well, he was playing like he could care less. It was a statement that came through loud and clear. If guys like Elvis Dumervil can play their hearts out there is simply no room on the roster for those who don’t. In any case the Broncos are getting off to a good fast start, which is necessary, since the schedule gets tougher every week. Knowshon Moreno is about to break out as the Broncos big back and the deffense is laying like the Orange crush of old. Let me know what you think.

The Luck o’ the Broncos

sept13drewnew

A Photo Finish
Wow, what a finish. We’ll remember the Brandon Stokley Immaculate Deflection for generations to come. And it was made just that much sweeter watching Jay Cutler throw 4 interceptions on Sunday night. What did you guys think? Oh, and by the way 9News started using my cartoons after every game at 10! I’m excited about that. ESPN broke this story yesterday that Shanahan had planned to cut Brandon Marshall right before Shanahan himself was fired. That leads us to today’s poll question.

Broncos cartoons after every game, Here and on 9News

squarerhinonewestone

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be doing a Broncos cartoon after every game this fall that will appear on this blog and on 9News at 10 throughout the season. I’ll also be doing one additional cartoon each week on 9News as well.
It’s all pretty cool. Thanks to everyone for continuing to read my blog. Please tell as many of your friends that I’m still drawing sports cartoons here 5 days a week and encourage them to bookmark the page. It will help me immensely in my quest to continue to bring you daily sports cartoon content. And, if you’re feeling generous, please feel free to donate a buck or two through PayPal. Your support is greatly appreciated.
