Today's cartoon is from the October Issue of Mile High Sports Magazine
I usually don’t cross the boundaries of what I normally would print in a daily newspaper. But then again, maybe that’s one reason newspapers are struggling. Not enough changes. Not enough acceptance that the boundaries of what we see as funny today was not what was acceptable in 1965. So when I e-mailed the rough for this to Doug Ottewill, who is my editor at Mile High Sports magazine, and asked if it was too edgy, he quickly replied “Love it. Roll with it”. It was music to my ears, because, quite honestly, doesn’t the cartoon express the way every Broncos fan feels about Josh McDaniels and the way he has dismantled a once great franchise.
So if this is a bit harsh for some people , well, sorry. But the truth will set you free.

Wow. This was a bombshell only Pat Bowlen is capable of dropping. Josh McDaniels is fired. The Broncos have new life. And it’s going to be an Orange Christmas after all.
One of the good things about drawing for a blog like this is I don’t have to wait to put it online and out to all of the Broncos fans who have waited for this moment.
I don’t like to make fun of someone who just lost their job, so I’ll at least keep the writing civil, but the Broncos relieving McDaniels of his duties is a relief. The Broncos have a rebuilding project ahead but at least we know it will be done by someone more competent than Josh McDaniels.
I love the movie Christmas story and this image popped into my head shortly after I got the news that McDaniels was gone.
I’m also really, really glad to know that Mr. Bowlen made this decision now rather than later. To let it go on much longer would have been a horrendous disservice to Broncos fans all over the world.

Some things just bare repeating. This one is from March of 2009. The more things change. the more they stay the same.
I know it seems like I’m beating a dead horse. And I’m trying to use every bad pun and crummy cliche known to man. But Broncos fans are in such a state of misery I think we all need to laugh at how bad it is or be crying in our Orange Crush.
Working away on this coming Monday Match-up Madness animation. My partner in crime, Rich Moyer I spent 13 straight hours at the drawing board and computers today working on key frames. there’s a whole lotta funny in this one which features the Game of the year so far the 9-2 Jets taking on the 9-2 Patriots. It’s going to be a great game and a pretty hilarious animated cartoon.

I always try to draw cartoons that we all can relate to. This is a good example. So many of us in Denver are suffering through the worst Broncos season in decades. Throw the Spy Gate controversy in along with the Elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about (Mr. Bowlen’s presence or lack thereof as of late) and it’s not been a fun season thus far.
You all are so awesome! You had some fantastic comments on yesterdays cartoon. Forgive me for not jumping into the fray. I was feeling a bit under the weather. The schedule I’ve been keeping to churn out the ESPN animations every week and do my other work I think finally caught up with me. Nothing that a winter of sleep wouldn’t cure. Have a Great Day!

Update since this post:
Pat bowlen did respond to a football website last evening that Josh McDaniels is his head coach for the foreseeable future. He plans to make no changes this year and intimated not in 2011 either. His words don’t change mine below.
Here’s a brand new cartoon hot off the drawing board. I couldn’t wait until tomorrow to jump on this crazy story in the land of Broncomania.
There are so many things wrong with using video cams to film other teams, especially during a Saturday walk through which often contains the first 15 plays a team scripts for Sunday, I just don’t know where to begin. Suffice to say it’s corrupt on so many levels that it’s a bit like digging through files in the Watergate building. Eventually you just knew Richard Nixon was in deep doo-doo. And so is Josh McDaniels.
I’m going out on a limb here, but to me, there is no way you can retain McDaniels as your head coach for next season with this skeleton in his closet. Trust is broken. The humiliation is huge and the damage is done.
Here’s what we need to take from all of this…If Pat Bowlen doesn’t make a change at the end of the year, the Denver Broncos are in big, big trouble. Because what it insinuates is even more worse than anything McDaniels regime has done to the franchise. It means there is no captain at the wheel. Whether it’s Bowlen’s health or something else within the organization going on, if McDaniels is left to coach next season it spells the end of Broncomania as we know it. It means blackouts in Denver. It means a runaway train heading over the cliff. And ain’t nobody stopping it. Nobody.
