Today’s View From the Bull Pen
Growing up in the late 60's and early 70's, I was a huge NBA fan. From Wilt the Stilt to Jerry West to Nate Archibald to my personal favorite, Pete Maravich, I loved the game and watched it as often as I could. Somewhere along the way, sometime after Magic and Bird, I lost that loving feeling, and, unless I just have to watch it for work purposes, I avoid The NBA at all costs.
This cartoon is as clear a comment about those feelings as I can make in less than 100 words. Inspired by the Eagles song "Wasted Time" which I recently heard while watching the History of the Eagles DVD, I think it is my definitive statement about how I really feel about the NBA. It all seems like a colossal waste of time. Don't you agree?
As always, your readership and your comments help to make the world go round, so please continue to add them. I will try to do a better job of responding.
There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.

Quotes & Quips“Why not let people differ about their answers to the great mysteries of the Universe? Let each seek one's own way to the highest, to one's own sense of supreme loyalty in life, one's ideal of life. Let each philosophy, each world-view bring forth its truth and beauty to a larger perspective, that people may grow in vision, stature and dedication.”- Algernon Black

Guess who’s feeling some serious heat? I hear the Lakers theme song is Billy Joel’s “Pressure”. should be interesting. This cartoon was done for 9News KUSA TV Denver 4 people…
Ouch! That’s gotta hurt. Even Jack Nicholson had to wince in pain watching the Lakers being swept by the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. Mark Cuban gets the last laugh. It was ugly. Two Lakers were ejected but they secretly hoped they’d throw the whole team out. Phil Jackson has picked a sour note to end his career on. I actually thought though, it was in the NBA TV contract that it had to be Lakers vs. Celtics playing for the title every year until eternity. what did you think of the weekend in sports. Crazy? Wild? What’s that? You spent the weekend in the yard grilling and chilling. Good for you. Me too.

I don’t know how you feel but…
The NBA season drones on far too long. It’s the only sport for me that makes me feel like I’m working when I watch it. Other sports don’t do that. Even World Cup soccer which I’m actually enjoying, doesn’t make me as crabby as having to watch an average NBA game. Now, last night wasn’t your average NBA game. It was game 7 of the NBA finals. Both teams actually played defense which NEVER happens in the NBA. And if you exclude the time it looked more like a Rugby scrum it was actually entertaining. But, still. I’m soooo glad it’s over. How about you? Glad to see it go or want 7 more games?
Got a cartoon over on ESPN by 9 or 10 EST. I’ll let you know when it posts. Have a great weekend!
I grew up on the Lakers-Celtics era with Chamberlain vs. Russell. And then West vs Havlicek. And then, of course Bird vs. Magic. Forgive me if it just doesn’t feel the same. How about you? Are you into this upcoming series? Or are you more likely to turn on the NFL channel and dream of September? Or wish that Ubaldo could pitch every night?
