Tag Archives: Mike Shanahan

Hindsight is 20/20 they say. As Broncos fans try to recover from one of the the worst seasons in the history of the franchise, there is plenty of time to reflect. It’s easy to remember what used to be and wonder whether the changes of the last few years were necessary. Was it a mistake to fire Mike Shanahan in 2008? It seemed abrupt at the time but Shanahan’s magic had begun to disappear. Change is good. But it can also be a case of being careful what you wish for. The alternative could be worse. And clearly Josh McDaniels was. So we sit on the eve of the return of John Elway to a position in the franchise we have no idea he is competent to hold. But this much is sure. It can’t be any worse than what the last two seasons have wrought.
And the winner was…
You all picked Shanahan Crosses the Delaware, which, by the way was my favorite too. Here it is in living color. Thanks for voting everyone. This was fun. I think we’ll do it again sometime. And you can see the Virginian-Pilot cartoon below since it wasn’t on their site
Here’s the one from the Pilot…

And now for something completely different.
OK. Here’s the deal. I got a call from Colleen McDaniel, the sports editor at the Virginian-Pilot to do a Mike Shanahan cartoon. I used to work with Colleen at the Rocky before she moved on to greener pastures. So I did 4 roughs and Colleen picked one which I drew and colorized for this mornings paper. You can see it HERE if you want.
So it left me with three unused roughs which just seemed like a shame, sooo…I thought it would be fun to post them here and let you choose. Here are the cartoons. Below is a poll for you to pick which one I’ll ink and color for Fridays blog. So with out further ado, start picking…
