I don’t know how you feel but…

The NBA season drones on far too long. It’s the only sport for me that makes me feel like I’m working when I watch it. Other sports don’t do that. Even World Cup soccer which I’m actually enjoying, doesn’t make me as crabby as having to watch an average NBA game. Now, last night wasn’t your average NBA game. It was game 7 of the NBA finals. Both teams actually played defense which NEVER happens in the NBA. And if you exclude the time it looked more like a Rugby scrum it was actually entertaining. But, still. I’m soooo glad it’s over. How about you? Glad to see it go or want 7 more games?

Got a cartoon over on ESPN by 9 or 10 EST. I’ll let you know when it posts. Have a great weekend!

Abraham Lincoln: Four score and seven years ago…

I took a few days off during this past holiday weekend. It was great to take a break from what seems sometimes like endless deadlines. I hope you had as great a weekend as I did. I always take time to remember the vets who have done so much for us. My Dad served aboard the U.S.S. Pennsylvania during World War II as a Gunners mate. We owe so much to the brave and valiant men and women of that generation who gave so much in service to America.

I’ve been reading a lot about Abraham Lincoln lately. We took a great trip to D.C. back in April and I prepped myself with several books on Lincoln. I’m reading “Lincoln: Tried by War” right now along with a book called “Skipjack” about the last of the sailing Oystermen of Chesapeake Bay. Anyway this cartoon seemed like a setting to vent my frustration about the length of the NBA playoffs. By the way, this cartoon in no way is meant to disrespect the men who gave their lives for the greatest victory in our nations history; to free those held in the bondage of slavery.

Bored Stiff

This one kind of sums up the NBA playoffs for me, especially this year. I guess I should be rooting for the Celtics-Lakers series to come through. I have several friends who are die hard Celtics fans. Yet I still feel lulled to sleep by it all. And to think…this is the warm-up for World Cup Soccer. Yikes!

Nuggets Fever Lives for another day!

The Nuggets beat the Jazz to stay alive for another game. Good thing. With all of the Tebow stuff and my trip I haven’t had the chance to weigh-in on the Nuggets. I got back from D.C. just exhausted, so I hope you won’t mind the “replay” for today. Anybody got Nuggets Fever?

NBA Lockers of today…

Lawyers, guns and money

I’ve been meaning to get around to this topic for days now. Scary that this is really what it’s come to. Pulling a gun on a teammate in the locker room. Don’t you wish we could wander back to the days of Wooden. I know I do.

Drew in Review: 2009

Drew in review 2009

2009: Unforgettable
For me, 2009 will always be remembered as the year a great newspaper died. The Rocky Mountain News had been a part of the Colorado landscape for 150 years until it’s closing in February. It set my life and career onto a new path, drawing cartoons for this blog and for places like 9News, the Chicago Tribune, United Media syndicate and The great Guadalupe County Communicator in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. I hope you enjoy this year in review piece I put together. It will be featured in the January issue of Mile High Sports Magazine on news stands next week.

I’ll have a new cartoon on Saturday.

Bird’s Nest

Thank Goodness. There for a while I thought the Nuggets had lost there ever loving minds. I thought we had a bunch of Bird Brains on our hands. But finally somebody came to their senses, gave Chris Anderson a well deserved raise, and allowed Nuggets fans to breathe a sigh of relief.

Last Day of this weeks caption contest. Get those entries in by 6 p.m.

I’m not sure If I’ll get in another Joe Sakic cartoon or not. I’ll see what my schedule is like and see if I can get one in.

The Lazy Days of Summer

theend

It’s the off seasons that are roughest
I grew up in west Texas, where we had Two sports. Spring Football and Fall Football. Summers were for swimming pools and steaks on the grill. I’m one of those guys who looks forward to the football preview magazines and the start of training camp. Until then, pass me another Pepsi and the sun screen.
