Today’s View From the Bull Pen
St Patty's Day
To celebrate the return of Patrick Roy, I thought I'd post my three favorite and most requested Roy cartoons from my days at the Rocky Mountain News. I'm excited he's back and I know you guys are too. So here's to St Patty. I'll raise a pint o' Guinness to that!
Have a great a safe memorial day weekend! As always, your readership and your comments help to make the world go round, so please continue to add them. I will try to do a better job of responding.
There isn't a way to leave comments in the Bull Pen so please feel free to leave your comments under the latest cartoon that I post.

Nuggets Don’t Love L.A.

Haven’t I seen that guy before?
That Referee looked familiar. Wait a minute…
The least Stern could have done was wear a disguise. Remember you heard this here first…If the series goes to 7 games don’t be surprised to see Jack Nicholson starring in a new role..as an NBA Referee. Hey, it could happen. -
The NBA finals: Is somebody a little on edge?

Never let ‘em see ya sweat
Or so the story goes. But you better believe David Stern is feeling a little nervous about now. His “Dream Team” match-up of Kobe vs. LeBron is about to go up in smoke. We’ll know pretty soon if the fix is on if suddenly the Cavs come back and Kobe finds a teammate to help him do anything on the court. Me? I’m pulling for the big upsets. It’s so much more fun that way. Don’t cha think? -
Lakers looked pooped!

I like this internet thing
This is one of those cartoons that might not have made it in print, but here, well the time was just right for this gag. The Nuggets dominated game 4 of the Western Conference Finals and evened the series. The Nuggets were ferocious on the boards all night. The difference between these two teams and the reason why I think the Nuggets will win this thing. The Bench. The Lakers simply don’t have one. The Birdman was his usually electric self, flying often into the rafters for rebounds and causing chaos with those flailing arms…uh…wings of his. It’s a sight to behold ain’t it? Go ahead Nuggets fans…Tell me all about it. Leave your comments by clicking on “more” -
TGIF: Nuggets win and it’s Caption Contest time

Contest Time
I debated about whether to interrupt this weeks contest and do a live Nuggets cartoon after the game. I’m finishing this blog at 2 a.m. so why not, right? But so many of you are enjoying the contest, why mess up a good thing. So here it is.
Da Rules: Keep it clean and be original.
Da Prizes: The winner gets the cartoon with their caption in it, a free t-shirt and a sketch of the Nugget of their choice.
The runner ups get a free t-shirt and a sketch of the Nugget of their choice.
I won’t be doing a live cartoon of the Nuggets game on Saturday. I will have a cartoon on Monday but haven’t decided whether it will be a Nuggets cartoon or not. Toon in Monday. Have a great and safe Memorial Day Weekend. -
Steve Scores Contest Win!

Steve From Summit Graphic Studios Scores Upset!
We had great response this week with 127 entries and I have to tell you it was tough. We really could have had 10 winners at least. This weeks runner ups are:
Hazardous_T said:
“Don’t look now but I think Vince McMahon is dressed up as a ref…”
and
Phil said:
“Yes Mello, Kobe IS your father.”Three quick notes:
First I’m running behind on my mailings, so forgive me. I’ll be getting them out tomorrow.
Next Our winners need to e-mail their address, t-shirt size and their preference for sketches to me at sportoonz@gmail.com.
and Last Several of you caught my mistake on the Birdman’s number. Player numbers and I have had a rough history. I can’t tell you how many times I put Kobe in a number 8 jersey (his old number) only to have one of our copy editors catch it. (He was a Lakers fan). My bad. I fixed it in this copy. In golf they call that a Mulligan. Have a great weekend. And How about them Nuggets!! -
Lakers vs. Nuggets: The Police Report

Nuggets report stolen game.
The Nuggets had the Lakers right where they wanted them. Against the ropes, down for the count and they let ‘em up just long enough to give ‘em life. This puts the Nuggets in a pressure cooker on Thursday night. They know they have to get one back. It won’t be easy but the Nuggets did show that the Lakers are in for a tussle. Thank goodness for the WWE.Don’t forget the Caption contest
Great entries so far. I hope you guys have as much fun writing them as I do reading them. I can tell this week it’s going to be tough to pick a winner. So, what do you all think of game one? Observations? Coaching advice? Kidnap Kobe? Let me know! -
Signs of the Times

Don’t know if your living room or den looks like this, but , hey, it’s a place to start. Tomorrow night most of Denver will be glued to their sets. Lakers fans, not so much. They have a way of kind of looking down on the Nuggets. Who can blame them. The Nuggets have been at the bottom of the barrel for so long most people forgot they were still in it.Lets here some predictions Nuggets fans?
