It’s that time of year when some of us (not naming names) become one with our couches and refrigerators and go a little…well, mad. Here’s my cartoon on the 7 warning signs of March Madness. Even one of these and you could have it. All 7, heaven help you and your significant other. This cartoon is featured in this months Mile High Sports Magazine available throughout the Denver Metro area. Or click on the link for a digital view.

It was a super busy crazy day on Wednesday. I had three cartoons to finish and some website things to attend to. So I’m getting to your comments late I’m afraid.
In researching today’s cartoon (I always do a lot of reading to get topics and trends) I found some great stuff by Joe Dorish over at Yahoo.com. You can read the entire article here at Yahoo.com
In a nutshell Dorish had some very telling stats to prove that the Big East have been dominant this year. Here’s what he had to say (copied and pasted verbatim):
Combined the Big East has a 27-15 (.643) record vs teams from the ACC, Big Ten, SEC, Big 12 and Pac 10. And that includes winning records vs each and every conference. And the wins are not padded by beating up the weak teams in those conferences.
Only two schools (Auburn and Texas Tech) from those five conferences that have played Big East teams have losing records. Combined all the teams from those five power conferences that have played Big East teams this year have a record of 506-240 (.678).
So Big East teams have won nearly 2 out of every 3 games they played (.643) vs the other power conferences in college basketball this season while the teams they beat have won better than 2 out of every 3 games they have played (.678).
Amazing, huh. And you know how the at large Tourney bids are given, right…just like today’s cartoon.
And Congrats to the University of Northern Colorado! The Bears are going to the NCAA tournament for the first time in it’s history!!
Toon at ESPN.com Commentary
Wow. What a weekend of upsets in the tournament. I didn’t do a bracket this year. This cartoon is exactly the reason why. I really prefer Captain Crunch for breakfast.
Teams like Cornell and Northern Iowa serve to remind me why I love sports so much. I love underdogs. I love teams that play as one for the greater goal of winning. I’ll root for the “WE” before “ME” every time. When I find myself getting cynical because I’ve just drawn the 45th cartoon about steroids in baseball I think on weekends like this and the very first episode of the great Aaron Sorkin show “Sports Night”. If you haven’t seen that show you owe it to yourself to buy the boxed set. Clear away a whole day and watch each episode back to back. Of course, that’s right after you spend next weekend like you spent this one. Glued to the set. Bracket on Chop.
