A Holiday special Broncos toon from Mile High Sports

Be sure to scroll down for the punchline!

I thought this would be a fun cartoon to leave you with for the weekend. It’s featured in the September issue of Mile High Sports magazine which is available now throughout the Denver Metro area. Be sure to pick up a copy. This one might go over well taped on the fridge! Since so many of us take off Friday and Monday over the labor day holiday (not me personally but some of you lucky ducks do) I thought this might tide us through until next Tuesday when I return to drawing live. I’ll have an ESPN cartoon up this weekend as well over on ESPN.com so check back for that one. And I might have something for the CU-CSU game but I’m not sure yet. One good way to know if I post something new is to subscribe to my RSS feed. Have a great Labor Day weekend and be safe!

The Perils of Preseason

My latest cartoon for United Features syndicate. I just think the whole NFL process has gotten too long.

Coming Soon!

I’m heading out for a few days to San Diego for Comic-Con. I won’t have a cartoon on Thursday, but I’ll be back with something for Friday. I might do a few DrewTube episodes from there, but no promises. Have a great day!

Oh and there’s a new Cubbies cartoon over on ESPN.com

The Big Easy will never be the same!

whenpigsfly

When Pigs Fly, Chickens have teeth, Frogs have hair, and the Cows come home…
That’s pretty much the mindset these days in New Orleans. They’ve already renamed Mardi Gras, Lombardi Gras. It brings back memories of Denver in 1977. No one believed the Broncos could do it then, much like the Saints now. Oh, that first championship does amazing things in the community.

Olympics to come
I’ll start cranking out Olympic toons soon, but I might wait til after a Danica at Daytona cartoon. Not sure yet. You pick. Which one do want me to draw for Friday?

Who Dat? Super Saints!!!

supersaints

Believe Dat!
With grit and determination, the Saints, just like the city of New Orleans they come from, have overcome adversity to rise again. Once the joke of the NFL, no one is laughing now, except perhaps in glee. The Saints are Super. For all of those who weathered the storm of Katrina, this cartoon is for you.

Floyd Little: Time for some Fame

Floyd Little cartoon

Time for some Floyd Fame.
He was, after all, the foundation of the entire Broncos franchise. Isn’t putting Floyd in the hall of fame long over due. You can click on the Floyd Little cartoon and it will take you to the Floyd Little Hall of Fame page where you can join the cause. Todays cartoon sums up my feelings about the whole thing. Enjoy the Super Bowl and check out the blog on Monday for the cartoon. My prediction? Saints 34, Colts 31. OT.

The Super Bowl Shuffle

superbowldownhill

Super Bowl Week
Here’s another cartoon that kind of sums up the way I feel about the Super Bowl. It’s bittersweet. Just knowing that when the game is over, so is the season. I’ve always tried to convince my wife to let me keep the Christmas lights and tree up until after the Super Bowl. Tis the season ya know. But then I would have two things end at the same time so it’s probably better to go ahead and put one away before the other.

The metaphor of the roller coaster is one of the most used in all of cartooning ( next to the guy on the desert island.) I’d never done one though with the thing just ending in mid air. I kind of like that. It’s certainly the way I feel after the game is over. Be sure to check back on Thursday for our Super Bowl poll and another cartoon.

A Pro Bowl rough, some stuff and back to Five.

pro bowlruff
This was a rough draft that I did for the Tribune on Friday that didn’t make the final cut. I liked it so I decided to post it as my daily. Did I say daily? Yep. I’m revving it back up to 5 a week again starting today. You’ll see some new stuff on 9News as well. It’s been a good break for me and I appreciate your patience as I took a little time to tend to some much needed business to move forward in my life after the Rocky. I have some things to share from my break. But before I do, I’m asking all of you to help me. As I rev back up I’ll be making some additions to the blog. I need your help to spread the word about the blog, the cartoons and that I’m back to five a week. I’m hoping we can add some new readers in the next few weeks, but I can’t do it without your help.

I’ spent some of the time off rebuilding my portfolio site at http://www.littoonzstudios.com
I’m pleased with the results and if you have anyone you know who needs comic art work, animation or illustration please feel free to pass the link along.
I’m also playing with changes here. I’m exploring the idea of adding a thing called mingle, which basically allows you to chat with myself and fellow drew crew members live.
I’m planning to add a real store when I can get some products developed.
Lastly, I’m developing a Web comic that will be very different from the sports stuff I have done for 27 years. I’ll keep doing this and do a web comic two to three days a week. The site is being built (it will be housed at a different site) and the process is underway. I’m losing sleep over this one because I’m so excited about it. It will give me a creative outlet I feel I have needed for quite some time. For those of you who don’t know, sports cartoons was not what I wanted to do when I grew up, drawing comic strips was. With the changes in the newspaper industry I’m not sure print is the direction to go these days. With the advent of the iPad and the Kindle I think comic strips will have a renaissance on a new platform. It’s vital for me to find new ways to do what I do.

More than ever I treasure my readers. Thanks to all of you for continuing to stop by daily to read and offer comments. You’re the best!

Sincerely,
Drew
